ticks

Lately, we have been getting a lot of ticks around here. I check my dogs by running my hand through the fur feeling for bumps(and try to visually check).

Is this the right way to do this? I never had problems before with ticks(never, ever saw them). I told the wife to get that front line stuff for ticks, so that should help-or is it a waist of$$$

thanks

Noticed the same around here this year. Funny cause I actually have a Frontline packet sitting on the table waiting to be applied to the dog in a few minutes. I've been using Frontline for years on my dogs with great results. Never a tick found on any of my dogs. I know its expensive but WELL worth it IMO.

I had a tick infestation that I couldn't get rid of. A Vet. recommended Frontline, a prescription grade tick collar(both I got from Pet Meds) and a professional spray of the yards. After 3 months and two trips from the exterminator (using both spray and granules) The ticks are gone.

I spray the yard every 2 months with Ortho Max (red bottle) and the dogs get bathed with Mycodex ( blue cap) every 3 weekes or so. Keith

Never had tick problems in northern IL when I was growing up with us or the dogs.
Northern WI was a different story. Used the Frontline stuff that you apply topically and didn't have any issues after that.

i think the frontline stuff is the way to go. i deal with vets all the time and thats what she gives us, advantix would probably be the next best just for ticks though. but stick with the frontline and dont forget buy the packs for the largest and just dose it down depending on the weight, saves a good amount of money

We recently had a dog that came to us covered in fleas and ticks; some of the ticks were as big as peanut M&M's. Vet told me to apply the Frontline stuff as directed- 24 hours later, zero fleas and the only ticks on her were the dead ones that didn't disengage. Now we use the stuff proactively every other month.
