Texans

Hey, Im trying to find the name of a song and the singer. It has lyrics, that I can remember: "Its a long, long way from here to Alpine, Texas". A buddy of mine from DFW and I used to listen to it all the time when he was still in the Marine Corps with me and I cant find out who it is for the life of me. Lend a hand if you know of it. Thanks.

It's a long way anywhere to and from Alpine period. I'm curious myself, I don't think I've heard it.

Did a Google search on that line. No hits. Are you sure that's an exact quote?

Yeah it is exact. I did a couple searches with just the words "Alpine, Texas" and didnt get any results. I really wish I could remember more of the words but it was usually played under the influence of alcohol. Somebody besides me has heard it, I just need to find out who.

There was one that went (I think it was the title of the song) "Happiness is Lubbock, Texas in My Rear View Mirror".

Artist/Band: Classic Country
Lyrics for Song: Abilene - George Hamilton IV
Lyrics for Album: Classic Country: 1950-1964
Abilene, Abilene
Prettiest town I ever seen.
Folks down there don't treat you mean
In Abilene, my Abilene.

I sit alone most every night
Watch them trains roll out of sight
Wish that they were carryin' me
To Abilene, my Abilene.

Crowded city, ain't nothin' free
Nothin' in this town for me
Wish to God that I could be
In Abilene, my Abilene.

How I wish that train would come
Take me back where I come from.
Take me where I want to be
In Abilene, my Abilene.

Rotgut whiskey numbs the brain
If I stay here I'll go insane.
Think I need a change of scene
To Abilene, my Abilene.

Outside my window cold rain falls,
Sit here starin' at the walls;
If I was home, I'd be serene
In Abilene, my Abilene

Speaking of Texas; here is a bit of trivia for you. Did you know that out of all the visitors to the DTR, the most concentrated amount comes from Texas? Specifically, College Station Texas. Now why is that? It can't be all Hoss!

Actually, I take back what I just said. The numbers from Texas are as follows:

Houston 1,284
Dallas 577
Austin 384
Tyler 310
San Antonio 309
Fort Worth 238
Plano 210
College Station 178
Spring 107

Those are the numbers for today, and the number beside the City is the amount of unique visitors. College Station is number 8 and Houston no. 1. Now that doesn't mean that other cities don't have more visitors from a particular area, but Texas overall is always at the top of the list.
