Speeking of misinformation: What's up with the Thread on the TDR were the guy says Cummins is making a JackBrake head for the 5.9. (thats funny stuff)

Darrell, I'm not sure I follow you? What is so funny?

BTW, it's JAKEbrake, not JACK

Re:TDR Subscription

I'm going with Regina, Saskatchewan.

I've never been there, but I hear that Saskatchewan is so flat that you can watch your dog run away for three days. Is that true?

This is the chat room isn't it?

Here it is JakeBrake

Cummins doesn't make one and won't make one for these trucks. The guy needs to find a different Cummins shop, the one's he's going to doesn't know D@$%.

My point is, that misinfomation is everywhere, that's what I ment by wading through the BS.

Sorry my spelling isn't up to your standards Rob. [undecided]

Re:TDR Subscription

Rebby, I will say "Yes" to the TDR magazine. You will find certain copies to be more beneficial that others. Example, a few copies back was an article with instructions and pictures on how to repair/repad our truck seats. This one article would be worth the annual $35 membership if you need to make this repair.

TDR has more collective experience than this site just by the number of members...13k verses 3k. Does that take away from this site? I say not in the least. If my truck had some unusual hiccup or rattle, but only if I did such and such, the chances are greater for others or more having the same situation on the TDR. That doesn't rule out DTR members having the problem or a corrective solution for said problem.

I enjoy this site and feel that it serves it's members in a very nice manner. This takes work by the owner and moderators. My thanks to all of you.

Jerry

Re:TDR Subscription

They wont fit. :

Well maybe if you put a huge hood scoop on they would but they wont fit into no stock engine compartment.

The retarding effort would trash a clutch in a second and would also lock the rear tires up at highway speeds.

Have you ever drove a truck with a real JakeBrake on it? The retarding effort is unreal when you close the exhaust valves, it's like down shifting from 5th (or 6th in your case) to 2nd at 60mph.

Now they maybe could do something with the new engine and the electronics, I'm not too familiar with it yet. But I'm pretty sure the exhaust valves are not electronicly controled.

We all don't know eveything and that is my whole point. If I did know everything I wouldn't be on here of the TDR I'd be running my own engine company and kicking Cummins butt with my line of 6.8 liter turbo charge I-6 engines.

DB

Re:TDR Subscription

Ok guys, lets just let this one go. It's not serving any real purpose and it just keeps getting more heated. We're all going to have our different opinions and we all need to respect each others' opinions. It's not worth arguing about because this isn't going to change anyones minds.

Jack

Re:TDR Subscription

Darrell,

Yes, I drove OTR for 1,500,000 miles, plenty of engine braking expierance. I still dont see what the problem is, the brake is designed to slow a heavy load, not bob-tail (which I did all the time without issuses), or in this case an empty P/U. It would be an expensive piece of hardware I'm sure, therefore only the guys who knew what they were buying would purchase it, and there-by, know how to use it. I think it is a possibility that a real brake will be developed, and nothin' that a 3" body lift couldn't hide.

Later,Rob
