tailgate

I have a 1ton 2004 dodge ram, does any one know how much weigth does the tailgate hold before the cables holding the gate snaps?The dealer did not know and I called that factory number and the guy I spoke to also could not tell me.Thanks in advance.

Depending on how old your truck is, you have to weigh in the corrosion factor on the cables. My 02 has already had bot cables snap because of corrosion. Brand new 3/16" cables should be good for around 500#.

I would say 500lbs. on the gate itself is a fair assessment. I have frequently loaded 650lb. pieces of equipment into the truck and had to set about 3/4 of their frames on the gate while I made a second lift with the forks to slide it forward.

I have replaced my gate cables twice in 200+K.
