snow plow help

Anyone members out there have snow plows on their trucks? I just picked up, new to me, an older truck with snow plow. I disconnected the plow, let it sit for two days off truck. I re hook it up, now I can't get it to pivot left or right. It goes up and down no problem.

any ideas? water in hydraulic lines?

What kind of plow is it?

Make sure all your electrical connections are greased and plugged in tight.

Also that you have enough hydraulic fluid in the pump.

Fisher speed cast. separate pump off of motor. Fluids are good...just topped off other day.

plow jerks in those directions i move joystick to. It seem it just gets stuck.

No plug ins. Just plug in the male/female hose fittings and its hooked.

OK.

It does sound like there could be air or moisture in the lines then...

So this is a mechanical hydraulic plow with a pump on the engine correct? I check fluid level and look lots of foam in the fluid. Is the pump making screeching noises when you try to angle it? I would remove all the angle cylinder hose lines, then manually push the plow end to end and watch for the fluid that comes out, then refill with fluid and run the plow bumper to bumper. These older Fishers called for Dexron ATf for fluid.

Yes, mechanical pump on motor.

Pump is not noisy. At this point, I think there is moisture or fluid is just contaminated.

Plow is new to me...not sure of fluid condition...age etc.

Thanks though for suggestions.

I'd try a complete fluid exchange on it then if you have no idea what's been run in it...at least eliminate that from being the problem.

Well, I figured out the problem. Today was a little warmer, 40 degrees. I was out there looking at the fittings. One of the two hoses was only 3/4 inserted. I guess the night I was trying to hook it up, the snow/ice got packed in the fitting too. Works fine now.

Thanks for all your input.
