Smoke smell in car?
I am with Jim Lane on this one...the only way to really do away with it is to remove all the sticky residue that clings to everything other wise you will still smell it when you crank up the heater etc.....
People that smoke really have no idea I can smell them the moment they walk in through a door (from the other side of the room) just from the residue on their clothing, it is even worse in a closed vehicle.

If your beater has carpeting in it, remove the carpeting.
MY MIL's house was smoked in for 45 years, when she finally quit, it still smelled. Time helped, but removing the carpeting finished the job.

curious, I offered to clean my neighbor's car (she doesn't trash it , just rarely smokes in it). lysol tub and tile cleaner lifted the nicotine residue pretty good from dash, vent tunnels and carpet. cleaned the seats well also. took me four big cans though....tedious to do the vent tunnels but helped with a dryer sheet when the blower was operated, I couldn't tear that apart enough. now it smells mountain fresh woo hoo used it in the rental apt on everything!!! worked really well, followed by the standard chemical wash (orange cleaner/pinesol, ect)
good luck. all to save some bucks..wow.
