shotgun ejecting shells

I was pheasant hunting with my neighbor yesterday, and everytime he would pull the trigger, and shuck it, it would kick out the fired round, and 2 new ones. everytime.

any idea what that could be? its an older model ithica, cant remember which one exactly, but its pump action (obviously) and only rated for 2 3/4.

Been a long time, but I think the old Ithacas had the underside shell carrier, is it dumping the new shells before it does the spent casing?

Thats only one of the feed mechanisms from the tube. There is another that pivots up and catches the next shell in the magazine to hold if from double feeding. That might not be working right either.

Try thouroughly cleaning it first. This can do wonders for old shotguns! Don't pull any screws on an old Model 37's receiver though, they are very tricky to get back in. Don't ask.

The magazine of pumps and autos is usually overlooked when these guns are cleaned, most just swab out the barrel and wipe off the outside neglecting the magazine tube. Just my .02
