Was it a make and break one lunger? Those are cool engines for 90 yr old technology.

where you gonna use a checkbook? I use a check for the water bill and my mortgage. easier to swipe a card and go home and schedule the payment for about three days later.

I have used Kero/atf at a 50/50 to free up marine engines that had sank and stayed submerged then drained immediately upon recovery. Worked like a champ.

'bout a 20 year old Honda 10 horse. Early CDI, can't get parts for it. At least on the old ones you could file the points till you ran out of cam follower.

Called OReilly for a plug. They had exactly one in stock.

Well, I finally got time to start working on this engine. It turns out it wasn't seized after all. One of the springs in the centrifugal clutch let go and jammed between the clutch plate and housing. I just spoke to the person who sold me the quads. She has clutch kits in stock, all of $15 each. I can pick it up on Wednesday and get this put back together. I guess this could have been a whole lot worse.

Abuse was appropriate and deserved. During the autumn and early winter, I have to prioritize. Preserving harvest and getting ready for Christmas took priority. They are only little 2WD quads so I knew they werent going to get much use once the snow fell. Crazy thing about Alberta, the night the quad broke I was on the deck in short sleeves at 10pm. We have snow on the ground today, that will be here until spring that landed on October 15. That is only 2.5 weeks after the party!! Darn crazy autumn in the shadow of the Canadian Rockies!!

you had a couple months there between thanksgiving and christmas to get into it. when the equipment isn't used is the best time to PM and make repairs.

It is far better to procrastinate, never do PM or repairs, and deal with catastrophic maintenance as the need arises.

That said, I do prefer to do maintenance over repairs, although people seem to have better uses for my time than I ever do. That leads to a lot of off-putting of projects. Maintenance is still tops though.
Should I ever find that elusive "down-time" that people tell me about, I will be sure to use it wisely.

Good find on the clutch issue Sean, better than a trashed engine.

the management and manufacturing engineers at our shop have had the PM vs repair arguement over and over. Its a matter of biting the bullet, scheduling in the time, and doing it.

here's a chemical fix:

1/3 kerosene, 2/3 tranny fluid mix. spark plugs out, fluid in the hole. let sit. next day, six point wrench on the output and 'tap' to move rotation.

chinese stuff : had my share of plastic gear tools.

still have 1960s cub cadet, small enignes done right. never see that again I am afraid..

bro in law has two. had to wire a car battery to a battery 4wheeler for the third grand kid to keep up with the other two. do what we can for the lil ones, don't we?
sorry to hear sean, good luck.
The 1960 cub Cadet would be the Original ; I have a few of those tractors, 2 originals,100,107,123,125,147,149,129, and a 1512 diesel. One touch garden tractor ! I got yellow fever for sure.

Long story short, one of the engines seized. I left it overnight to cool and it is still seized. Any suggestions on how to get it unseized or is it just junk now?

They aren't expensive, only $299 but I would hate to have to replace it after only 2 hrs of use.
I think you can get a milemark grill emblem for the one that's still running. (similar to those million mile emblems they give Mercedes owners).

more than 2hrs is alot to ask out of one of those.
