Saw an 18 wheeler VERY nearly lose it!
Re:Saw an 18 wheeler VERY nearly lose it!
i take I-81 back to school on the weekends and its pretty much a normal occurence...nothin is worse than having a semi dump a truck top full of snow right in front of you....makes it worse that the "speed limit" is more like 85 instead of 65 on that road

I've enjoyed reading this stuff!

I want to say this. I have been on more road miles late last year and early this year than many years gone by. Much of it through the night. I see mostly VERY well driven and VERY good looking trucks out there on the "Big Hiway". I enjoy giving them the lights like they give each other. And they all seem happy to reciprocate (sp?).

That said most of the Big Truck crashes around Houston are local hot shots or out of towners that just don't know what goes around here.

Keep 'em coming if ya got 'em!

After a snow storm last year I was driving across a flood impoundment causeway (two lanes undivided and a very soft shoulder with guardrails close in) when an oncoming cube van lost a sheet of ice off the top. In slow motion I watched it come straight for me - I had nowhere to go with oncoming traffic and people behind me.

Luckily it broke into two smaller chunks just before hitting my windshield. Needless to say the seat covers had to be rearranged but surprisingly it didn't pop the front glass. The car behind me disappeared in the resulting spray of exploding ice crystals.

At a closing speed of 100 mph I am really surprised my windshield survived.

Didn't witness it myself, but back in December a Jeep Cherokee was driving up Rt28 over the Dulles Airport Access Road here in VA and managed to hit a berm of snow just right to catch Evel Knievel-type air - he landed on his wheels on the Access Road below. Destroyed the Cherokee but nobody hurt.
