San Francisco area

Hey...anyone here from the San Francisco area? Currently living in NY and considering a temporary job out in San Fran. Wanting to know typical stuff, weather, overall traffic, cost of living, people type etc. etc.

I've spent six months in the L.A. area. So I know what thats like.

Thanks

No you don't.

SF is so diferent from LA it isn't even funny. In fact, SF is so different from EVERYwhere, it isn't funny.
Geographically it is on a peninsula, so it gets a very cold influence from the ocean and the Bay. The city has a lot of stuff to tour, and look at, and maybe some pretty cool people, but it is a very strange place. If you are taking the wife, she amy enjoy the garment district, and of course you have to ride the trolley. WALK across the Golden Gate Bridge. That is a really cool walk.

JJ,

I live about 40 min outside the city, it is very different from LA. But manageable all the same. As for your rig... forget about it they there is no parking for a big truck like ours It is a very cool place but very cramped, you live right on top of eachother. The climate is pretty even with 40's and 50's at night and mid 60's pretty much year yound. Although the summer gets pretty hot sometimes, but those days are rare. My ultimate idea of the city is cool to visit, but not to live. Think about the surrounding area, maybe a commute, but a short one because the traffic is only getting worse around here. Just my.02. PM me for any other questions, but the ultimate opinion is you taking a trip out, to check it out. I would highly suggest it.

Was out there a few weeks ago. It would probobly be easier to come in on 101 thru San Jose, since the big accident with the tanker. You have to stop at a place called Casa de Fruta. Its off of 152. best stop of the trip.

I don't know if you will be working in San Francisco proper or in the Bay Area. SF is very different than the rest of the area. If you plan to work there you should look at it closely before you start as commuting is expensive and crowded. Parking is a problem. The other cities in the Bay Area are a lot different, so check it out.

Also, as Mark Twain once said "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco". Very true. And don't even think about swimming in the Bay or the Ocean. Cooooooold.

If you like to sail your comming to the right place.

Oh, by the way, the damaged overpass is now fixed so traffic is back to simply miserable but you'll get the hang of it.

well by golly molly I live right here in SF and you have two different climates, depending on where you want to hang your hat---I live in the Sunset district--which is, along with the Richmond district, by far the coldest part of the city--wet and breezy many days in the summer--most days are around 50*-55*, but it can feel like the 40*---but your parking situation is better out here than downtown or the Marina or most other places for that matter, although Protrero Hill area isn't to bad either---best weather is downtown and Protrero Hill area or just about anywhere on the east side of town--but SF is only 7.5 square miles big, so there's not a lot of east or west or north or south to begin with---if you tell me where you think you'll be living I can give you more info---

people aren't bad, but you've got every walk of life here and it can be downright shocking in the things you may see---if you work out of the city your commute will be pretty good as it's reverse for the most part, but there's areas that are within 20 minutes that have great weather, but you will fight traffic some, depending on your hours----

any thing else you want to know let me know----chris
