safe downloading

I just bought a new i mac and i was wondering if anyone knows where i can download music and movies safely and free.
I had a PC before used frost wire and got a virus that attacked my mother board apparently. I dont want this to happen to my mac, my girl friend will kill me.

Thanks in advance

Down load where ever you want. Your safe. Music is really safe on a mac. If you get something in that you didn't intend to, you have to give it permission to run. A file that is downloaded from the internet will cause a message screen to come up and ask your permission before you run it. If you don't know what it is trash it. end of story. no muss no fuss.

Have fun, great choice in a computer. My cousin has had the same macbook for 10 years!!! couple of memory upgrades and one CPU just to make it faster is all he's done.

I use Frostwire and Azureus. Frostwire gives your turbocharged downloading for free, and is an exact model of Limewire in function.

The more and more you download, the more things you start catching, like wording and number of peers compared to the size of song.

I use Limewire and I do get some viruses but I have it save to a different folder than default off the root drive and have NIS scan the folder before any of the files are opened.
Also turn off File Sharing.

How is the display on that laptop? I am looking at new laptops and the display comes nowhere near that of my Fujitsu N6010.

I have tried many different brands with Sony Vaio being the best but I have to sit and keep adjusting the position of the display to see a sharp picture, get a few degrees off and the picture degrades, my N6010 you can watch from any angle.

That's a good question considering an iMac is a DESKTOP

My other half has a MacBook PRO and it had a wonderfull display though.
Sure makes this cheap LCD i'm using look cheap . . .lol
Displays are one thing Apple does very well.

I really don't trust the programs like frostwire and limewire. I've read that even though they deny installing any adware, malware, or anything that really should NOT be bundled with the program that people who have done enough research into the program have found it on their computer anyway. I have also had issues with my past 3 laptops which all had limewire installed on them. This new laptop I have, at least at this point, is not going to get limewire. I have read that bit torrents are the way to go and are actually much safer. You can download all you want with limewire, but you don't have to share anything if you don't want. But with the bit torrents, you can actually be penalized with a slower download speed depending on your uploading.

^^^true. For that reason the apps like Vuze for bit torrent allow adjusting download/upload speeds. The ISPs are concerned with your upload rate, keep that to a minimum and you will be fine. Also it is wise to stop seeding asap after a bittorrent has completed, this is where it begins to upload packets back. It is good for the person downloading, but not after its through.

Just to be safe I downloaded iantivirus free version I think from mac downloads. You will like the mac. The best thing i bought so far is the magic mouse,no buttons or scroll wheel etc. Check it out online. You can go back or forward a page or scroll with the swipe of a finger or two.
