Rust - Hating and Preventing go hand in hand

I live in the rust belt, good ole Michigan, where we salt the roads like a margarita glass. Well, they do that after it's snowed for a month cus it's 'always a surprise'.

My truck is all white, no badges (except the tailgate), no stripes, just 1 tone. The bottom of the pinch-seam on the passenger door is rusting and I'm gonna try to kick this one in the quiche before it gets rolling. I want to line the bottom of the body with something rust proof, but I do NOT want something bumpy (like herculiner). I'm waxing my truck this weekend, and I can wait to apply this stuff in the winter. I'm just looking for ideas right now.

How would YOU keep the body from rusting on your truck? And no moving out of state or storing it.

Wash the underside of yhour truck thoroughly. Let it dry, then paint everything with POR-15. I have used this stuff....its truly awesome. On the inside of your door jambs and anyplace that isn't seen from the exterior of the truck, but gets wear/tear and scuffing, use Line-X, Herculiner, etc. to cover it. I don't have any real suggestions for the exterior of your truck, since you don't want a rough surface. There are decent undercoating products that can be painted over, but they still leave a texture. You can get some bedliner materials that aren't nearly as rough as herculiner, and can be matched to your truck's paint color. They do have some texture, but actually have some shine to them, and aren't rough like Herculiner.

I did the rockers on my truck with herculiner because I wasn't worried as much about the looks as i was about stopping the rust. I did the rockers and door jambs, and even the bottoms of the doors, where our Dodges really like to rust. Its rough, but looks far better than rust.

I've used POR-15 as well. And Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator.

Trust me, nothing's better than RustBullet-- and they have proof.

The light sensitivity only discolors SOME types of POR-15, and it doesn't weaken the strength of any of them. What I like about POR-15 is that its nearly rock hard. You can scrape it, rub it, and hit it with a hammer, and it doesn't come off. If the prep is done right, its on forever.
