Riding Mower in Storage.....Maintenance Tips?

This is WAY off topic but I am looking for some tips on getting my riding mower up and running. It is a relatively new (~ 50hrs) Troy Built riding mower with a 22 horse Briggs and Stratton engine. It has a 46" cutting deck and all the bells and whistles. I replaced the oil regularily and have replaced the three cutting blades once. It has been in storage and not started for 2 years now and I did not drain the gas. Also, the last time I drove it, it was hard to get in and out of gear (belt tension issue maybe?) It also has grease fittings in the front end. Any tips from you mechanics out there? I want to do an overhaul this weekend as my grass is growing.[eyecrazy]

THANKS!

Engine - change the oil, change the spark plug(s), change the filters (air and fuel), drain the fuel, add fresh fuel. You may need to flush out the carb.

Check all the belts for cracks, fraying and the like - replace as necessary. Adjust tension.

Grease all the fittings and check the tires and air 'em up.

Charge the battery (replace if needed).

That should do you. The bad thing may be the carb, it may have varnished up and you may need to take it apart and clean it.

Hope this helps...

This winter when you go to put it away, put a double dose of Sta-Bil in it, it'll keep the gas from varnishing up the innards of your carb. If you don't want to mess with that, drain the fuel out of the mower, and run it until it dies. Your sweetie will appreciate how much better it starts in the spring when it's not full of 3 month old gas.:D
