Reconstructed title and VIN lookup

How much should I deduct from the kbb private party value in "good" condition due to a reconstructed title? I was thinking somewhere between 10-20%. I'm looking at a 2005 car that has had the left fender, left headlight, front bumper, and hood replaced.

I would appreciate any info someone can find on VIN 4S4BP61C057305119

I would say more like 35 percent because you'll never get full value from anyone for it ever again. Bank, insurance, everyone will know it has a rebuilt title and won't pay. I would ask your insurance agent how they would handle it if you totalled it. How much would they pay? Can you get an agreed value policy? If your bank will even finance it ( if you need them or whatever) will the rates be higher? Is anything covered as far as warranty and recalls? All things to consider.

I'd give 60% of value on up if it's in good shape... That deminishes as the car's (if it were clean titled) value goes down since it's depreciated already. So if it's a 3 year old neon don't take off as much as you would for a CTD truck because a 3 year old neon's useful life is shorter.

Does that make sense.. LOL

Just my $.02

Thanks for the replies. Anyone else know what the average markdown is for a reconstructed title? The specific car I'm looking at is a 2005 Subaru Outback with 34,000 miles. I tend to hold on to cars for a while and can pay cash, so how much would you offer below kbb if you were me?

60% of KBB if it's in good shape.

i think i would buy every reconstructed title car i could find if i can get them at 60% of book. because i can sell every one i can get my hands on at 80% of book. once they are over 8 years or so it is a wash, because most folks are paying cash for them. i have bought and sold a bunch of bad/salvage title cars. i never gave one away unless it was junk. but they have to be repaired very well, not some goober that chucked on a fender and took off in it. i do find many times if i just watch the auto trader for what i am looking for i can find one for a very good deal. if i keep on top of the search. and get one with a clean title.
