Razors

After spending a small fortune on razor blades about a year ago at Costco I decided to keep track of the lifespan of a typical Schick Atra blade. I have been going thru about three a month.

A friend said he read or heard somewhere that if you dry your blade after each shave you can get about a year out of one! I have been tapping mine out on a towel now for about the last month and must say it seems to be helping. Still going strong with out any discomfort. I have sideburns and a van dyke so I really only shave my cheeks and neck and don't have a very coarse shadow.

Anybody know of any other tips to extending the life of a razor blade?

I can get 3-4 uses out of a Gillette fusion power before it resembles a serrated steak knife. Never been able to get more than that.

They also now keep them under lock and key in the store and inside a plastic mag-lock case like they used to for CDs.....

Or at least the art of stopping blood loss!!

I used to use the Schick Quarto and would get 4 to 5 good shaves. I now use the Bic 3 blade something or other disposable at $3 for a 4 pack at walmart. I get about 3 to 4 good shaves and WAAAY less money. I only shave about 2 or sometimes 3 days a week. My job lets me look scruffy and no complaints

I use the mach 3 turbo. I'm 1 of the lucky guys with really stiff bristle brush facial hair and baby skin. razor burn no matter what on my neck. Shave my head and whole face and have been getting 3-5 shaves out of each razor consistantly. Unless I get my ol' lady to shave my back and can't sneak in her razor for mine. Then it's ne and done......

I used to buy every fancy Razor that came along..... In a fit of desperation one day ( didn't have any replacement blades for the razor of the month ), I grabbed a cheap disposable Bic out of the OL's drawer............

Been using them ever since, something like 3 bucks for 10 of them, and I get 4-5 shaves on each before I throw them away, still cutting good, but not that smooth snick like when they are new.

There's an actual razor club that you can join that will send you new razors weekly at a fraction of the cost.

Their viral video commercial is absolutely hilarious!

This is going to get interesting.

We were just talking about how expensive it gets with the blades and last night a commercial was on from one of the brands claiming you can run for up to 3 months with one cartridge. Yeah...right. I know when I am at my 4th and final shave with a cartridge. Feels like the hair is ripping rather then slicing.

I will have to give the Bic's a try. Good info.

I use my old Gerber Combat knife and cold water....the cold water actually helps to keep the blade sharper (try cold water on a razor going dull and see if it gets you one more shave, steel contracts when cold making the edge sharper)....not that ANY of my knives ever get a chance to get dull

If you ever pick up one of my knives DO NOT Touch the blade with your thumb....ask John P what happens when you do that

I hollow grind the blades on my knives which is the same angle they grind on a razor blade, VERY sharp indeed.....the only downfall is durability as it can make the edge rather brittle because it is so thin. High quality steel though is the answer to that dilemma

My Gerber has been thrown, sliced and diced...hacking bone etc and still going strong decades later

On Scream and Fly, I used this Red Green snap for an avitar for awhile. Then I switched to the boat shot.
