Radiator Backflush

A little something I whipped up that may interest some of you. This little piece of tubing does a great job of flushing your radiator from the BACKSIDE. I have found that just washing the front doesn't always get all the dirt, dust, grass, lint and bugs out.

rjohnson borrowed it a couple of week ago, and he was surprised at how much dirty water came out the front. He said it would probably work well on the cooling coils of an outside ac unit. He was right. I done mine today and got a lot of scum out of it.

The sharp, pointed edges make me a little nervous. Before I use it again, I'm going to round the tip and solder it.

what is on the end of the copper tube, to the left. have to do mine, think i will build one.

That's just a piece of duct tape I put on it to cover some of the sharp edges. I used a hacksaw to make two slits down toward the end. If you do much off road or back road driving, your going to be surprised at how much junk comes out. I was.

Oh, buy to way......plan on getting a little wet.:)

That's 3/4" copper tube with one end flattened out and adapters to fit a hose on the other end, right?

crobtex Jun 29, 2005 06:55 AM

Exactly. But like I said, I am going to round it off where it's flattened and put a bead of solder on it to reduce the sharp edges. Be careful, you'll be surprised at how much pressure it puts out.

Parts: Home Depot: less then $10

Heck, I might have the parts just lying around the house, actually. And the truck's been running a couple of needle-widths higher on the gauge lately, so I'm thinking I need to do a little cleaning on the radiator and so forth.

Probably won't get to it until next week. Spent the holiday weekend installing a fence on top of a retaining wall and along the back of the yard. Nothing says "holiday weekend" like grinding concrete and digging postholes! [laugh]
