Radar Detector
I don't go that far and never had a problem. I just put active radar detector in the notes, and the judge takes care of the rest...
As for locking capability, at least here in NC, I should clarify that our RADAR units will NOT automatically lock. That old feature is pretty much long gone so that we can get a tracking history... However, we are REQUIRED to manually lock the speed in our RADAR in NC. We are not required to show it to the violator. We are not required to show any kind of slip, or show radar, or prove anything whatsoever on the side of the road. Everything happens in court if someone should decide to plead not guilty.

What keeps you alive as a cop is: never turn your back on anyone, and never trust anyone. I have been in some nasty situations that if I wasnt on my game things would not have been good. Letting someone walk back to your car to see the radar is a tactical error that could lead to nothing but trouble. Having said that I would show the radar to lary or the administrator

I agree and that brings up another Thread Topic but: Why do some Troopers let people in the front of there cars? I have sat in the front of 2 Trooper Cars..... in the long gone past of course for speeding ONLY.......but WHY? That to me is a tactical error and sadly almost cost the life of a fine NC State Trooper a couple years back when he was stabbed and cut by a guy he had sitting in the front in cuffs with a seatbelt on (The Trooper shot the guy a couple times with his .357 SIG and ended that). I was never checked for weapons, mase, taser, or anything the 2 times I sat in the front and discussed my violation with the Trooper....

. I do know that law enforcement is a dangerous profession and there are circumstances that even the most tactically sound officer just cant aviod.

I don't have much choice over it. I've never understood why we don't have dividers in our cars but it is what it is... Been in a scuffle or two in the car. Not fun but I'm used to it. I don't know how comfortable I'd feel now having someone behind me.
RADAR is required to be certified and calibrated once a year. I check the accuracy of mine before every shift, and after every single stop. I then document the results in the officer notes of the ticket.

Sir,.... you bring up a very good point about Troopers, or ANY street law enforcement officer (city, county or state) allowing a violator to be seated in the front seat of a police cruiser. I am a retired police officer from southeast Texas and can tell you that procedure is NOT allowed out there. It is also not even taught in any of the police academies. After I retired in Texas, I moved out to eastern N.C. and worked for another seven (7) years as a police officer with a small beach police department. I am also a certified law enforcement training instructor here in N.C. I can tell you this. That "front seat violator option" is still in the lesson plans in the regional training academies here. And as Jack already said, their department and Troopers still use the procedure. Why? Like you, I really don't know or understand it. And to be honest, I was somewhat surprised to see the procedure being used when I moved out here. But,....as the saying goes, old habits or traditions are sometimes hard to break. This is in NO WAY an insult to Jack or ANY L.E. Officer here in N.C. or any other State that practices this procedure,.....but rather a "baffled, surprised" retired L.E. officer that believes it is a procedure that can cause injury or death to a L.E. officer!
IMHO,.....the practice is dangerous and I would like to see it stopped by all law enforcement agencies nationwide that are still using it. If those agencies feel they still have to do it, then at least make it "standard procedure" that the violator or suspect be "patted down" BEFORE being placed in the police cruiser as you pointed out.

I run a passport radar detector... Love it... Feel naked without! lol
Yes if a Laser hit you then your caught, but if the laser hits anybody else around you then you are alerted of the signal and can back off before you are hit...
Same is said for those that say well the cop toggles it on and off... Again correct, however if they toggle and hit somebody a mile ahead of me I will know well ahead of time... On open road I have been alerted close to 3 miles away...
Love mine, works great, nuff said
