Quick question for our LEOs/HP
Don't forget VASCAR either. It's not used nearly as much as RADAR, but it's out there and there is nothing you can do about it until it's too late.
I agree with Jack. RADAR is far more prevalent, being that it only takes one person to operate it. Laser on the other hand, requires at least two, or more officers. One to set up/operate. And another to pursue and issue the citations.
Another thing on RADAR is the X band is not very common, because it is easily interfered with by automatic doors, and when compared to K and Ka, require more radar power, which also makes it more easily detectable. Some areas still operate X band, but it is not common. K and Ka are far more prevalent.

99% of the time, it's X-Band, K-Band or Ka-Band RADAR being used. The other 1% of the time you'll find laser or Lidar. For a mode with such little use, it's a waste of 300 bucks to try and jam it, at least IMO.

Thanks Jack!!!!
Fighting a radar ticket in court is easy. Ask the cop how fast the tuning fork was moving. Then ask him if it left his hand. If it registered 55MPH, and never left his hand, the radar could have read anything. Worked for me.
huh? You wouldn't get by with a technicality like that down here.
Daniel:
I had posted this in another thread where some questions about radar, LIDAR and VASCAR had come up.
If you guys are looking for a way to "combat" being stopped for possibly speeding, one of the best ways I know of is to buy a C.B radio for your trucks and keep it on channel #19. The truckers are very good (in most areas) about letting each other know where the police are parked on the Interstates usually giving out their locations by the "mile post markers."
One other point, many of the state police/highway patrol agencies use a speed measuring device called VASCAR. It stands for Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder. Basically,.....time and distance. In many areas you will see white lines across the Interstates, near entrance ramps. The Trooper will sit on the ramp, watch those two white lines, check your speed as you "enter" and then "exit" the area between them, and VOILA,........he has your AVERAGE SPEED between those two lines. No beams, no lights, nothing.............. IMHO, it is actually worse than moving or stationary radar or even LIDAR because of it's "stealth." There is no way to pick it up.
Daniel, I know you travel through Indiana quite a bit and the Indiana State Police use VASCAR not only on the Interstates by the Troopers in their Ford Crown Victorias or Dodge Charger Cruisers, but they also have their Pilots in their airplanes and helicopters using the "VASCAR LINES" on the road as we used to call it, to check the speed of vehicles FROM THE AIR. Thus the name;
"Bear In the Air!"
Hope this has helped you some Daniel!

Thanks for the post John. I had a CB in my 91' and it saved me a couple of times. I have been looking at one for the 01' but can't decide what style I want, I am too picky.
I need this story about what happened on I-65.
I always try to drive the speed limit and just wanted to spur some discussion here.

Daniel:
I have a "Cobra 29 C.B." in my 1996 and it has always worked real well. I use the long "Wilson" Magnetic Antenna and it has real good range.
I will P.M. you on the I-65 story!
Im not arguing with Jack's statistics because I have no knowledge of that - but, I do not agree with this statement of needing two officers to operate and use Laser - I see them on the sides of the highway all the time sighting people with Laser - just one trooper...??
