Once you disturb the dirt, it is less dense than it was so it now has a greater volume.

depends if the moon is waxing or waining....

I think waxing moon, the dirt wont fill the hole. a waining moon there is too much dirt for the hole.

i was talking about what he said about the dirt eaither way the dirt wont fit back in the hole

 

If the moon is waxing, you dig a hole and fill it back in, the dirt will be mounded up. the dirt over fills the hole
If the moon is wanning, you dig a hole and fill it back in, the dirt will not completely fill the hole, it will be sunk in a bit.
The closer to a full moon or new moon, the less its noticable.

everyone go dig a big hole in their yard and try it....

maybe when the moon is waxing, you fill in the hole and it mounds up but your buddy who dug it just hadn't got out yet?

I'm pretty sure that hole needs a Concrete bedliner though.
