Problem with an 06 Dodge dakota

My brother came to me the other night with a problem he is having with his truck. He said that lately his 06 dakota with a 4.7 v8 will crank over, start, and die. He said sometimes is take him a few times to get it started, especially is it sits for a few hrs. He also has noticed his lights dimming on occasion at idle. Any one have an idea? I'm not to familiar with the 4.7 engines, is this a common problem?

When I had my dakota, dodgetrucks.org was the place to learn.

Honestly, it sounds like a failing alternator if you ask me. I'd have him start with all the wires leading to and from his alternator and battery first though to make sure that they are all tight and there is no corrosion. If that doesn't fix it, I suspect the alternator.
