powers out

boy right in the middle of replying to a thread & the power goes out.
Wife to the rescue, she breaks out her laptop from work hooks me up to a dial up & back in buisness. Now if I could just remember what thread I was on. Oh well must not of been too important. So I'm sitting here in the dark, well by a camp lanten anyway. What comes to mind is the 5 years we spent up in the cascade mountains living in a log cabin.
The cabin was built by Swedes during the gold rush days here in southern Oregon. All hand huewed logs. We had kerosene lamps for lights, heated with a fireplasce insert, & my wife cooked on an old nickel plated wood cook stove. We got our water from a spring way up the mountain, piped to the cabin. We raised chickens, rabbits & a huge garden. I shot a few deer a year, when ever we needed meat. Most of our meat got canned, except for a few cuts of back strap. Wife would put up 400 quarts of fruits & vegitables every year. Didn't go to the store much. I did alot of odd jobs from constrution, logging, fur trapping, & driving truck. Our daughter was three before we moved into town. For the first two weeks she was trying to blow out the lights. Well got to go now the power just came back on, hope it stays on so I can watch the season finnaly of Vegas & CSI Miami. Boy how our lives have changed & I do miss that life

Take care & I hope you injoyed me passing this great time in our lives with you.

Glenn

Oh yeah a simpler time back then!!!! BUT I've become fond of ...
... hot water. You can do brain damage from rinsing your hair with water fresh from the well bucket.
... refrigerator/freezers
... cooking without smoke
... not having to bury the entrails
... light without the smell of parrafin or kerosene
... dashing to the outdoor toilet in January

Actually we had hot water. Coils in the cook stove made hot water when the stove was going that stored water in a tank behind the stove. Later I built a solar collector that on a sunny day would give plenty of hot water. Had an indoor toilet an old claw tub. People would ask how do you have a toilet without electricity? Do you plug your toilet in? If you operate a kerosene lamp properly it won't smell. Same thing with smoke from a cook stove or wood heater. Even though this cabin was bult diring the late 1800's I remodeled the inside & made it nice.

Hi ramlovingvet
How the fishing been over there? One of these days we will make it over. Been real busy, you would think with the price of fuel it would slow travelers down. Not happening. The wife takes off for Lost Wages Nevada Sunday for a week of training. I'm headed up to Hoss's bomb party in Washington the following week. Don't drain all the Salmon out of inlet before I get a chance to wet a line.
