We've had issues of various types here, too, but I guess that is the nature of humanity. There are good and bad doctors, lawyers, judges, and clergy.

There is a trend of more agencies doing a super-thorough background, which will hopefully clean up the profession at the front door. Even so, there is no way for a person or agency to guarantee any particular individual won't do something really stupid.

Still, past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior.

Police - Good vs bad
Like any occupation or society in general 80% are not worth the air they breath...with cops tho they are able to use force under the guise of law....Put aside you beliefs and spend some time on these two links and look at the abuse of force ....

Thanks for posting Chaikwa.. Its a shame that he felt he was above the law. They're stories similar to this all across America about bad cops. Its unfortunate that we only hear the bad stuff. Everyday officers risk their own life to save another's. Those are the stories that need to hit the media stream.

Stories like this are what need to posted in the main stream media. http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?se...cal&id=7614565

Not unlike this forum, you only hear about the BAD stuff...People register here just to complain about something not working on their truck, but they don't post anything when it is working properly.

The same thing happens when someone sees abuse in Law Enforcement, everybody screams and shouts about how unfair it is but don't say a word when the Officer works night and day trying to make your world a little safer.

Unfortunately that is just the nature of mankind....ignore the good stuff but throw a fit at anything they consider injustice. It skews the numbers making it look like there is a whole lot more negative than positive.

I have had dealings with both good and bad LEO's.
I just wish the house cleaning was more often, Gives the good LEO's a bad rep.

Don't know about you guys, but there is nothing better than needing a cop and having a truly great one show up.

Makes up for most if not all of the bad ones out there...

Like Lary said, you hear more about the bad than the good. I would also strongly object to the statement that 80% are not worth a crap. The truth is that most officers are trying and succeeding at doing the best job they can, especially in the difficult times we face now. Most of the good things they do never get mentioned because it only affects a couple people and it's not bleeding so it's not leading. As far as this guy is concerned, he appears to have a history as a thug. His moral compass hasn't worked in years and has put himself above the law. That said, the law will come to collect it's due and I'm betting he checks out before the collection is made.

Here in Southern California this happened just last week,

Woodland Hills search area one of largest in recent LAPD history.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lano...d-history.html

Tonight we hear this,

LAUSD police officer admitted fabricating shooting story.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lano...urce-says.html

Then in our neighboring county,

Convicted California lawman, dubbed 'America's Sheriff,' enters prison

http://articles.cnn.com/2011-01-25/j...ff?_s=PM:CRIME

California has a lot of corrupted law enforcement to give the good ones a bad name.

Good story, nice of that trooper to take those kids into his own home and feed them.

Well there are some bad apples one thing the ticks me off is the fact that people whine when a LEO catches them doing something illegal even if its small(speeding, failure to yield, faulty equipment). I have had a few ticket in my day, and would say I deserved everyone of them, I have gotten luck a couple times, when I just told the truth(speeding, see a pattern).
My grandpa was a sheriff for 20year, I would say he taught me to have respect for officers, and they will have respect for you in return.

That Trooper is our very own Jack Thorpe, My partner here and Founder of this Forum If you knew Jack you would understand that there simply was no way he was going to let those children out of his site until he KNEW they were taken care of. That is his nature and any other action would simply go against his grain...He is most definitely one of the Good Guys

I am like you, I had my share of traffic violations over the years..... I EARNED every single one of them The Officer in each case was merely doing the job that I as a Citizen pay them to do and I too just told the truth when asked.

I was pulled over one time in my 1970 Firebird after rebuilding the motor with some high HP goodies. It was an early Sunday morning and not a soul on the Interstate when I laid the hammer down and out of nowhere I saw a red light way off in the distance behind me

I pulled over and was sitting on the truck waiting on him when the Trooper arrived and yelled at me "How the 'blank" fast were you going "blank ?" I told him "I don't know, but I was Flying! "He said you sure as heck were.... I was doing 135 and you were pulling away from me "

I went on to tell him that I had just finished a major build on the engine after working all night on it and just wanted to see what it would do since the road was empty. He thanked me for not telling him I was doing 55 and wrote me up for 65 ... He told me it would cost 15 dollars and to just mail it in (1973 prices)

Yep Honesty can go along way with those guys, they hear lies all day long and have got to appreciate honesty when they see it. BTW....the speedometer in my Firebird went to 160 and I had it buried To this day I have no idea where that Trooper came from, it was like he dropped out of the sky behind me as this was on a long lonely stretch of I5 in California.

Isnt that the truth. In my younger years I should have recieved a few DWI's (DUI in your area). Working in the jails and on the streets I tried to be flexible but I discovered that giving somebody a "break" could bite you in the butt big time. Its got to be even harder to be a cop now with video everywhere. Its not so much that you will get recorded doing something wrong but if you give someone a break, you get recorded doing that (ie not doing your job) as well.
