Are you kidding??? Little you know. I have heard them called Diests, but that is just putting them down on Christianity. They were most certainly belivers in God and strongly so.

Hmmmmmm... movie stars... great

Well I looked up two of them, Bill Gates is not atheist, neither was Einstien.

It would appear HID is right. Here's all the proof we need...

Does this include Clinton?

"Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment."

Are you kidding? You seriously think that no one who had a noticeable effect on history was an atheist?

Franklin, the pragmatist, believed in churches, because they were strong social organizing forces. When Madison refers to religion as "superstition," that's good enough for me.

Movie stars? Don't know, don't care. Mostly idiots who get paid to pretend to be someone else.

And while debating the contributions of atheists to society let's also not forget the countless who have died based on religious persecution by 'God fearing' leaders.

An individual's belief/disbelief in God does not define their level of morality. Of all the many common misstatements made in a religious debate this is the worst one of all.

Uh yeah, let me start. The bible is a BOOK.
Been re-writen and interpreted(sp?) hundreds of times over thousands of years. I have a bible fallacies link in my office computer, it makes some interesting points. I went over a few of them with my out-laws who are very "religous", they were angry with me to say the least.

This doesn't make it right of wrong, but the way the world is today A LOT of young people are wondering where "God" is. Or how he should be or could be playing a role in daily life.

You went head to head with your outlaws?!!!
You got some huge gnarly garbonzos!

Yes religious people have made a very confusing and contradicting mess over the past several thousand years in the name of God. It's no wonder so many have thrown in the towel on religion. That book, is what it is all based on.

Sorry 'bout that. The good book says our governments are instituted by God. That verifies that our nation is a Christian nation founded "under God".
Then Marlon Brando hates Jews and blacks... I was simply pointing out that predjudice and hate have been around for a long time. It's even condoned by God so says the good book. Must be a good thing...
Jesus was about as liberal as liberal can get. He even wanted redistribution of wealth. Yet the conservative right claims him as their mascot. That's what confuses me.
whtractor figured it out. I see folks to the right of me all up in arms and offended by everything from a dirty word to a booby! On the left are whining p#@@*'s (we have three cats by the way) over everything from the n word to having to work for a living. Neither offends me. I cuss while I work, I like boobies and beer and sent a few bucks to help the victims of their choice of location so they won't have to work.

I was trying to decide if your post was for or against religion. your explanation didn't help. I'm just gonna keep my head from tilting so my brain doesn't slide out.

Not against religion at all. I think it's a wonderful thing for religious people. I personally can't get past Genesis without rolling my eyes. But the hope and faith of an afterlife with a new body, ability to fly, seven virgins or whatever your vision of heaven is, if that comforts you during your short ride on this ball we call earth, that's fantastic. I would love to believe such a thing. It's just not in me. Jesus of Nazereth changed the world. If we could live by his word whether we believe he's the son of God or just a man with a vision, we would all be better off. But instead, we cling to the old testament and use it to justify our wicked ways.
