PC Question

On shut down, I get the following msgs that pop up (example) "0x02bf1611" and instructions "OK" to close the program or "Cancel" to debug it. What is this and how is it fixed?

I installed "Registry Mechanic", which cleaned up a bunch of junk and made the system run faster, but still get the msgs.

Thanks,

After you have restarted the computer and go to shut down the next time does the same message come up.

Run Malwarebytes to check for viruses and spy ware. Even if you have anti-virus software malwarebytes finds things.

If you did not install a program recently then you most likely have some trojan working in background that does not want to shutdown when you turn off the computer.

I'll give it a try.

How old is the computer?

It's referencing memory so it could be a RAM chip heading south on you.

For spyware/malware I use Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search and Destroy, and if your scan comes back clean it might just be some bad RAM .... I've had it happen to me, and they make some great keychains.

What is the entire message that is displayed? Take the whole message test and put it into GOOGLE and do a search on the fault.

One of the others asked about something new. Have you changed anything in the computer, since you started to have the problem?

If there was a definate point where the problem started, I would restore from a stored restore point - something your system makes automatically. Go bach a few days before the problem and restore from that point. Your data is not effected.

I'm leaning toward the bad RAM solution. I ran Malwarebytes and SBS&D. They both found a few things, but nothing that fixed the problem. I also ran a free program that suppose to check the RAM, and it also found nothing. The problem and been there for quiet awhile with not apparent consequences.

I'll find some new RAM and give that a try.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Before you replace the RAM. Try removing it and re seating it. RAM is cheap these days but why spend it if you do not need to.
