Is this paint estimate fair?
It sounds high to me. We have a 1380 sq ft house, and want to get the ceiling, walls and trim painted in the whole interior, a few nail patches, and cracks fixed where the walls settled and pulled the tape a little. We wanted Sherwin William paint, three colors total.
The estimate was $3800!! I know we live in AK and prices might be higher, but is that right? Our house is empty right now also. Thanks guys, I am getting another estimate as well. |
If you have a lot of Migrant Labor in Alaska thats too high. If they are skilled tradesman, no.

There are not too many up here, I originally was from New Mexico and actually worked with many when I did construction. I was hoping the estimate was high though:( BTW some of the guys were extremely skilled at what they did...

I did not mean migrant workers as I would of said migrant workers. I meant illegal aliens.
Sorry I was not politically correct for all my liberal friends. |

Doing the door correctly (taking them off and spraying them) is very time consuming. Trim work sucks because of carpet. Wall cracks and nail pops are not to big of a problem, but pulled tape can become time consuming to make it look good. Sherwin williams paint is VERY pricey but covers great. Ceilings add quite a bit to the cost, do you have vaulted cielings, plant shelves, etc? You wanting the insides of the closests painted also?
Remember to do it right (especially if your changing colors), you have to repair walls, pull off all outlet plates, switch plates, cold air vents, light fixtures, curtain hardware, door knobs, hinges, strikers, etc... These things add alot of time to the bid, if you have vaulted cielings then it's even more because cutting the corners in are a pain the higher you go up... Are you preping to sell or to move in??? If your preping to sell, then paint it all one color (have the guy come in and just mask and spray bomb the place), if your painting to move in then pick your colors and get ready for the cost... That price doesn't really sound to bad in my area, when I use to do this kind of work those where in the range of the prices I was quoting and getting more work then I could handle. |
i am a painter have been for a while and i just did my friends 2 bathrooms kitchen trim and patch work for 200 bucks. now that way under priced but if it was me painting and you were paying for paint and supplies i would charge 1300 for that and it should only take about 40 hours of paining time. i now work as a on site painter for a apartment company and most rooms are around 1000sf i charge 1000 for a full paint. thats kitchen bath bed halls closet trim doors and door jambs. and a extra 140 if theirs crown molding. id keep shopping if i were you.

It'll be worth it, the current paint is not only hideous colors, but POORLY done everywhere. |

I would charge about 2500.00 here in Oregon
|
Down here it would be more like $2,600.00, but up in AK it is probably a fair price.
|
Well thanks everybody, I guess it wasn't that high. Just thought it would be less, we might have to wait on a few rooms..
|
didnt know you had vaulted ceilings my quote just went up i would charge 1900. make sure you get a company that will warranty there work. my uncles painting company does a 10 year warranty on all surfaces no extra charge.
