Opinion on speakers
Im getting ready to ugrade my door speakers and add a sub. I already have a good 4 channel amp. I plan on using the rear outputs on the amp bridge for 1 sub. I just want to get some opinions on what eveybody has had good luck with for sound and quality.
Here is what im looking at. They are all just within my price range:
Component Systems
Alpine SPS-171A
Alpine SPR-17LS
Infinity 6010CS
Subs
JL Audio 10W1v2-4 10"
Infinity Reference 1050W 10"

Buy the speakers that sound the best to you. It doesn't matter what the reviews say unless your hearing is perfect. What sounds great to someone else might sound like crap to you and you're the guy that's going to be listening to them. Stick with the major brands for reliabilty.
I've got a 10" JL sub that's awsome. I also chose Cerwin Vega's over Infinity's. But that's my 50 year old ears.
A word of advice for the younger crowd. Watch the volume level. It sucks when your hearing starts going south.

Id go with the 10" JL. My cousin had a set of JL 10's with a 400watt rockford amp and it hit darn good. Really good sound quality. Kicker makes really good subs too. Ive got 800watts runnin to one 15" CVR in my chevy gasser and it sounds pretty sweet.

It all depends on what you want out of the system. I LOVE Infinity speakers for sound quality. My cousin used to have Infinity Kappas in his car and they were the clearest speakers I have ever heard. And IMO JL subs are the SHIZNIT! Buy whatever you think sounds good...

cool, looks like everybody likes the JL subs. I have also been checking out the alpine E series subs. Anybody got opinions on them? Im not going for loud base just somthing to make the stereo sound a little more full. As for the components speaks yes i am going to get what sounds best to me. I am just looking for reliability issues. I have had speakers in the past that lasted maybe a year not even being fully powerd.

I'm with Berner on this - and if you can. listen to the candidate speakers in the same or similar environment or application, e.g. in a Ram or other cab configuration that is "close", that will make a HUGE difference.....
....I pulled my Infinity's from my '82 Jimmy (6.2L, of course!), they sounded "okay" in that application, but sound great in the Ram. One thing tom be careful of is the door depth availability - I had to shim the speakers to clear the window.
