One BIG Plane!!

Working at an airport I'm always interested in this type of stuff, but here's some info on the new Airbus A380 for anyone who wants to see a BIG plane.

TSA is going to have to hire several octopi as passenger 'Security' screeners to fill that one before take-off time.
Let's see, .......how many screaming babies will it hold.

I'll just drive thanks,
Ed

I saw that on Good Morning America yesterday. They took a tour of it. I find it hard to beleive in someways. The 'struggling" airline industry builds a plane big enough to have an on-board casino and three seperate themed bars......
this is a strange world we live in.....

I heard about that on the radio the other day, Branson (Virgin airlines) was talking about how it had the casino and the rooms with beds. He said something to the effect "there is more than one way to get lucky on a virgin flight" I darn near drove off the road I was laughing so hard.....

Here is the thing, though. Airbus is made over in Europe (France, I think). The US government is pretty upset with how they have been subsidizing Airbus over there because Boeing can't compete.

With all the subsidies Airbus gets I wouldn't be surprised if this plane would be very affordable.

Thats a lot of lives in the hands of the flight crew! I would hope only the most experienced and professional crew, both on deck and on the ground, are placed in charge of one of those planes.

I don't know....I still think that flying is much safer than driving.

I'm kind of surprised that this plane is taking off though (pun intended). Most of the airlines today seem to be using the smallest possible plane they can. I can see the A380 being used for international flights but I wouldn't think it would be used for domestic flights.

Yes, I agree.

I only wanted to state that the responsiblities of the flight deck and ground crew are now for more lives.
An incedent caused by or worsened by inexperience will now affect the lives of more people.

I thought the new A380 was the world's largest plane now?

Rich, I hear you and I certainly wouldn't want to be part of the flight crew (so you can rest easy).

The way I look at it, it will add at least two hours to the overall travel time. I will take much longer to board and exit the plane, it will also take longer to get your bags. I do not think it will be cheaper to offset the added travel time, so that leaves the question WHY?

While the C-5 is a HUGE aircraft, it is NOT the largest plane in the world. That honor goes to the AN-225 from Russia. You can see it here ; http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/design/q0188.shtml

Nope, the A380 is bigger than a C-5, but like TOP said is smaller than the AN-225....but not much. It IS taller than the AN though.
