Need anyones .02 cents worth
 

Long story... Wife has a Nissan 2006 4.0V-6 Frontier. The other day driving home the engine literally died, but re-started twice, as if fuel was not getting to engine. I did some studying and common culprit seems to be CKP and CPS sensor malfunction. I purchased both and installed last night. Now the truck takes an extended amount of time to crank, but starts. Engine RPM is fine and it drives like new. Just a dog trying to start. Got my trusty OBDII reader out and it is giving me a P0335 (bad crankshaft sensor)with no CEL. Before I installed the new sensors I got no code.

Anyone got .02 on what may be the culprit. Nissan forums run the gamut of almost every sensor, low battery, bad alternator as cause. Like I said I had no codes before changing the sensors.

Wiring issues associated with sensors can be a real pain. I had something as silly as water seeping into a shielded speed sensor wire on the wife's Subaru. The water change the impedance of the wire altering the signal to the computer.

I'd get the battery checked.....free at NAPA, put .02 in piggy bank.

Well, Got out under the truck last night to pull the new sensors I had installed and take a look at the wiring. 1st one I pulled was the crankcase sensor and low and behold.... the plug was not made on the sensor. Pulled the rubber boot back and the plug was loosely sitting in sensor well. Pulled the sensor and found out that it was not the correct sensor from the auto parts store. I re-installed the old one and it fired right up, no codes, took it for a 60 mile test drive and all is good. The cam position sensor that I replaced had to have been the culprit on the truck shutting off while driving. The new replacement for it fit and it must have done the trick.
