More rioting.
Kinda slow at the moment, so I thought some may be interested. Saw it make national news too.

Last weekend Benton Harbor P.D. chased a motorcycle that crashed and ended up fatal. The suspect happened to be a local neighborhood hero :
. Monday night they had problems with the locals starting to riot. Last night they mobilized us (Michigan State Police) because the rioting got worse. The officers that responded had recieved sniper fire, and there were arsons( no officers injured that I'm aware of). Just got word a while ago to mobilize again. Gonna be patrolling the city early this afternoon to prevent build up.

Apparantly they are protesting years of police harrassment and corruption. They forget that a couple years ago we purged the command staff to include prosecutions. We did ride-a-longs and trained their officers. It took two years, but we got their property and evidence room up to speed. The new chief and much of the dept. are of the smae "race" as the majority of the "repressed" neighborhoods.

I guess any excuse will do to cause truoble for some people.

What are cops supposed to do? Dodge bullets?
Maybe pull the police out and let the "citizens" take out their agression on each other? ;D

Re:More rioting.
the kid ran, what ever happened to stopping when the cops tell you to. these people rioting are morally bankrupt and truely no use to society. well, maybe in california. i bet san fran will take them.
Re:More rioting.
The police are a convenient scapegoat for pointing to and saying "We are being kept down by _________!" It a simple matter of not respecting authority, any authority.

These same people refuse to point to the power-hungry charlatans like Jesse Jackson and Reverend :
Al Sharpton and Louis Farrakan that promote dissension and instigation against the system that allows them to be non-productive members of society. Ever hear one of the aforementioned "leaders" exhorting their followers (sheep) to get an education, get off welfare, and do something with their lives? I don't recall ever hearing such but then I pay no attention to them, either. I am too busy trying to pay my bills and taxes and have a little left over for retirement one of these days.

If the cops were to step back and let the natives fowl their own nest it would just be another reason for them to cry about being kept down by the system.

But then who am I to judge them? I only went to school, studied, learned, paid my way through college, didn't father any children out of wedlock, and have never been given anything by the government. I reckon that is why I don't feel I am entitled to any social programs. But that is just my WASP viewpoint.

Rant over. Let them howl all they want as long as they don't get the idea me or mine are fair game.

Re:More rioting.

Re:More rioting.
If the locals wish to thin out the locals----
Good ! ! The gene pool there needs thinning.
Spent one night there once --44 in hand all night
Was glad to leave ---never went back --don't want to either.
Why should the police interfer with locals who only will shoot them if given the chance.
Bad attitude I know, but The older I get, the less tolerance I have .

Unfortunately there are some, BUT, DON'T GENERALIZE!
Our dep't goes so far as to not allow new troops to be posted within 100 miles of their home to prevent corruption. Most agencys if like ours, are so proud of their reputation and filled with individual job competition, the officers are vigilant about reporting any questionable activity. Especially of other agencys. Yeah, an officer may get out of a ticket IF within reason, but I never wrote EVERY stop anyway, NOR did I get a GM employee discount, airline employee discount, insurance company employee discount, etc..........
Yes, our dept , county, and city each had an officer arrested last year in a prostitution sting. Prosecution, and discipline were employed. Unfortunately, when you have 4000 personnell, an egg can go bad, just as in any other job. It's called LIFE.
P.S. they found drugs AND he was suspended. Nothing happened last night, got rained out. Going again tonight just to be sure.

Hey Cummnzpwr,
If you don't like it, change it. Step forward, pin on a badge, and man up. If ya ain't got the sand, at least do a ride along with your local agency, see what kind of crap our law enforcement folks have to deal with. People like you bad mouth law enforcement until you need them, then all bets are off.
[shadow=blue, 2, 300]The bottom line is, if you ain't doin' nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about. [/shadow] If you are respectful and courteous to an officer who is doing his job, he will be respectful and courteous as well.
A lot of deputies and CHiPpies hang out at my station to do paperwork. Pretty sad when you can't sit in a parking lot somewhere without worrying about someone puttin' a cap in you. Happened in Long Beach about 4 years ago, two cops sitting on the side of the road doing reports, one takes a cap to the head.
What was really ridiculous was the rioters preventing the firefighters from putting out the fires. I worked with a firefighter who took a round in the hip during the LA riots. What a joke. These same people will whine that the government hasn't rebuilt the building. Even a dog don't crap where it eats.
I, as well as a few other folks around here, can tell you first hand that it ain't easy being an emergency responder. We didn't create the situation, but we get called to fix it. If you don't like the way we fix it, don't call, fix it yourself >
Okay, I feel better now.....
