More Chrysler Vehicles to get the 5.7l "Hemi" plus more......

From today's Autotech Daily:

CHRYSLER TO USE HEMI IN THREE NEW VEHICLES
Three of the nine new or redesigned vehicles Chrysler Group introduces next year will offer the automaker’s 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine. Named after its hemispherical combustion chambers, the powerplant bowed last year in Dodge Ram 2500/3500 pickup trucks. The new models due to get the engine will be the 2005 Chrysler 300C, Dodge Magnum and Jeep Grand Cherokee. In the 300C and Magnum, the engine will be mated with the same 5-speed automatic transmission currently used in the Mercedes-Benz E class. These vehicles also will derive their electrical architecture, front suspension, seats and steering system from Mercedes. With the 340-hp Hemi, the new rear-drive 300C is expected to zip from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. Only vehicles equipped with the V-8 engine will carry the "C" designation; a 2.7-liter V-6 will be standard in the base model sedan. Due next April, the flagship 300 replaces the current Concorde and 300M. The rear-drive Magnum wagon will be introduced a month later and matches the 300M’s performance with its optional Hemi configuration. Other features include an allwheel drive package, electronic stability control and self-sealing tires. The redesigned four-wheel-drive Grand Cherokee goes on sale in October. The Hemi-equipped SUV will provide 47% more power than a 2004 Cherokee with a conventional V-8. Other highlights include an electronic limited slip differential and independent front suspension. The other six vehicles on tap for next year are the redesigned Dodge Dakota pickup, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited SUV, Chrysler Crossfire roadster, convertible version of the PT Cruiser, diesel-powered Jeep Liberty Renegade SUV and a high-output version of the Dodge Ram pickup truck. Sharing front-end styling cues with the Ram and 2004 Durango, the midsize Dakota will have best-in-class horsepower, towing, torque and overall interior space, plus the only full-time transfer case in its class, according to Chrysler. The Wrangler Unlimited will be 15 inches longer than the current model, resulting in 2 inches more rear seat space and 13 inches of additional cargo space.

This would be all well and good except for putting the Mercedes stuff in there. That would prevent me from buying it right there. I was looking at the Crossfire until the dealer told me it had Mercedes drive line. That ended the discussion right there. I had two of them and will never have another one.
Oops, hpe this don't start a flame war. ::)

I was wondering if the 300C will have the potential for a police cruiser applications?

The new Durango looks like a sawed off mini van though. IMO.

That car would make for one mean police cruiser. Something tells me it might cost a little too much when put up against other models for bid.

Was wondering about that too. Ford needs some competition for the police market. Prior to Daihmler, Dodge was willing to make concessions to get back into the market.

The Owosso PD has a Dodge police car. It is an Intrepid and I think it fine for an around town police car. I don't know if they will get anymore, but I know some of the guys hate the Crown Vic.

Ya, our town uses Impala's. I have the same 3.8l in my own Impala and while its quick, it would never hack interstate pursuits like the Vic's can.
