Michelin Tires

I believe that Michelin makes a great, long lasting tire. Why dont they make any bigger than what they do. I think the biggest Michelin anything that I have seen is like a 265. Would love to see an AT in a 35" configuration from them.

Michelin does make the LTX M/S in 285/75/16 D rating.

My guess is they let their BF Goodrich division handle the specialty tires.

You can get M/S and A/T tires in a 285 D rated.

Bigger than that, and you're looking at XZL specialty rubber or somesuch.

I would just love to have a tire bigger than what is offered. I thought 265 was it but guess I was wrong. I run 315's right now and dont think my truck would look all that great with 285's nor do I feel that BFG tires wear like michelins.

NO doubt Michelins seem to wear very well in general. That's not always a good thing. If increasing wear by 20% gives you 30% less traction/performance, then I'd say it's a negative.

Tires more than anything affect steering, braking, and accident avoidance ability in general. I'd rathe replace a top-performing tire far more often than have a mediocre tire last forever.

If the premium tire is the difference between a panic stop and a major accident even just once, then you've easily paid for premium tires for a LONG time.

I've heard a lot of stories of Michelin M/S tires going 75K or longer-- almost 100K even. But in the last Consumer Reports test, the Michelin M/S was near the bottom-- scoring poorly in dry braking, among other things. Thus, I can't choose a tire like that.

Give me a tire than performs very well for 35-40K and I'll be plenty happy.

Good point, never really looked at it that way. I replace when worn but safety is always an issue.
