Interesting article that confirms what I have known to be true for years....the size of your vehicle and cost determines your safety in a crash. The heaviest vehicle wins and the more expensive vehicles have better safety systems in place.

I do not have a new MegaCab but,
Several years ago I was rearended on the I-10 fwy when traffic suddenly came to a stop, I was stopped when I was hit by a Toyota pickup and then a Nissan pick up both going 65 mph.

He hit my open pintle hitch and my bumper, missed the tailgate but got a crack in my fiberglass shell, it totaled both pickups behind me.

Insurance company could not figure out how both trucks were totaled with only minimal damage to mine, both trucks combined weighed less than mine.

And I almost spilled a drink I had in my hand.

I usually have about 1000 pounds of materials in the back, I feel very safe driving in my truck.

Rule of Lug Nuts: it doesn't matter who has the right of way, whoever has the most lug nuts is going to win the accident.

Moral: Keep a box of extra lug nuts in the truck.

Speaking of lug nuts (a little off topic) but it brought to mind a few months back I was on I-5 near Redding behind a 2nd gen I believe, when I saw something shiny whizz past my windshield. I thought wow, kinda looked like a lug nut. I backed off the guy a bit and at about 75 his left rear tire came off and shot across highway into oncoming traffic. I slowed it down quick as his truck was now parallel in front of me and I was looking right at him through the drivers side window. Don't know how it didn't roll, but he somehow whipped it the other way and stopped on the side of highway. Guess he didn't have any extra lug nuts in his truck, but man he was lucky.

This is why they make a torque wrench....it does two things, makes sure the lug nuts are tight and it makes sure they are not TOO tight. It amazes me how many people use a air gun to tighten the lugs having no clue whether they got it right.

So, when I lived in Missouri, the cost of our auto insurance wasn't too bad at all.
I moved to Nevada and our auto insurance is ridiculously high for the same amount of coverage.
Why the difference? Well if finally occurred to me that in Missouri, at least the rural parts where we lived, everyone not in a tractor drove a pickup truck with one of these on the back:

Yep, no re-end accidents in rural Missouri.

Common sense is rare these days so I've heard.:)
