Mark McGwire...

Well, what do you think, keep his records or not? I'm on the fence since some of the blame, IMHO, lies with MLB. They used him for profit and will get away with it. Yes, his choice was wrong but I believe he had help.

This debate can go on forever, there are two sides to every story; of which I will not voice an opinion for either. Not one of us has walked a mile in his shoes.

If they took his record, would they also take titles from the team?

I'm on the fence. I say "yes" for the games sake.

On the other hand the MLB sure looked the other way while this stuff went on. He put butts in seats as did Sosa, Bonds, A-rod, etc, etc, etc...

Big Mac can be considered a victim, but then he was more than equipped to defend himself if he decided to come out. He still is!

There are guys in the Hall that have done way worse than he as far as breaking laws are concerned, drug trafficking, drug use etc.

Not to hijack, but I feel Pete Rose should be forgiven for his sins. He set the example for way too many kids, myself included, as to how to play the game on the field. He needs to be honored for what he did right for Baseball before its too late. He'll always be a hero to me.

This is a touchy subject sure to bring some good angles. I'll be checking out this thread for a while.

I'm all for Pete Rose getting reinstated. Heck, how many people bet with a team they are playing against, whether for beer, cash or whatever?

If they stripped HIS records, they'd have to drug test every player that holds a record, because I'm pretty sure he wasn't the ONLY pro athlete taking performance enhancing drugs.

There are a lot of great athletes that are drug free. We all know why someone takes steroids. You know for that extra edge.
Cheaters don't deserve to be record holders. He should be stripped of is record but given another, The biggest looser

Babe did it on beer and hotdogs. I say strip him, Bonds, Clemmons, and Sosa.

Oh yeah, another vote for Rose in the Hall of Fame.

The use of drugs in professional sports and amateur sports is so widespread that if folks really knew the numbers...it would or maybe not shock you. Many athletes use drugs to get to a professional level and stay there...they are not always the biggest stars...they just wanted to be at that level and used any and every edge to get there...afterall, so many are doing it...if ya don't, you may be in another profession. For every use and abuse you hear about...theres far more that are out there that just did not get the focus or interest. More often then not the only reason a pro athlete gets caught with this is because someone else in the loop did not get the same results and they snitched. Then there is the attitude, "If I am going down, I am taking others with me."

If you are content with believing that there are only a few folks using cutting edge drugs to succeed...that is your choice. That big wheel that keep turning is supported by all the fans and all the products that sponsor the sport and the athletes. People want to see records broken and freakish accomplishments. Sadly most of that does not happen without some kind of 'assistance'.

Banning or stripping of awards will make the next group smarter or they may decide, its the price they pay to get the big money.

He should be stripped of the record for two reasons.

1. He fooled around with all that time and (our tax payer) money spent on the congressional hearings that is when he should have owned up to it.
Why now ?? Answer personal gain = new job

2. He continues to lie and expect us to believe steroids played absolutely no role in helping him to win that title to which i say bull dung !
Even if it was only one HR gained from it he deserves to lose the title.

Maybe he will run for congress next he is getting good at the lies and deceit and acts of remorse for tv ?

Too harsh ?

Maybe but an example needs to be set to break the cycle it it is long overdue .

Not to steer away from baseball but body profiles are more readily availible in football. How many people can be 6'2", 265 and less than 6% body fat without scientific intervention? Ill give you an idea... NONE! No matter what training, diet, profession, "doctors" are involved. The human body was never designed to support that physique. I don't see anyone crying about records being set in the NFL.

I say the entire league was to blame. I know of a lot of athletes who have taken a banned substance for recovery. The guy was injured for most of his career, so its possible. What did he hit his first year? like 47? He very much could of broken the record without the juice, but we will never know. It really is a shame.
