Manual Transmissions
My Mrs. wasn't pleased when I told her my Cummins would be a 6 speed. I gave her the reasons why and she said I'd just have to teach her. I've had it 5 months and she's only tried to drive it once. Not pretty. I'll leave it at that. 2-3 really killed her, well more so the truck.
"I want to try driving this thing again" she said about a week ago. (I could of sworn I heard the truck groan)
I think my solution is going to be to buy a 66 Charger with an auto, so if her car isn't available, she can drive that. She won't go for that though.

Autos seriously frustrate me going around turns and upshifting and whatnot. Not having appropriate control of a vehicle really bugs the hell out of me. My wife won't drive a stick so I have to drive her auto sometimes and it's just plain wrong and frustrating.
My wife was driving a standard when I met her. She drives a standard VW diesel standard today. My 18yo daughter drives an auto in her Camry but she is also my fishing partner so I have her drive my truck sometimes. Thing is my daughter can drive a standard but never learned how to ride a bike!
My wife was driving a stick in a honda when I met her. She drives my truck sometimes but the stiff clutch gets to her after awhile. she's kinda hard on the clutch though, pops it when she shifts.
My wife can drive our 3500 5spd but not well.....I bug her to practice more so she becomes more confident.....it is a tough sell.....she probably isn't confident enough to drive alone. I keep preaching about the "in case of an emergency" approach......My problem (and hers) is that she will NOT drive the truck when loaded with camper and the trailer and Jeep in tow.....that much length and weight is overwehlming for her when trying to drive the 5spd.....problem is, that is when I really want her to be able drive it - when we are back in the bush and in the middle of nowhere, far away from home.....I don't know what to do about this.....you can't teach confidence and she is just way too nervous to try and gain the experience to be able to do it successfully.....I'll keep trying, though!
CTD NUT The best thing to do in your case is to get a empty trailer and put her on the interstate. All she has to do is shift up to speed and drive. My wife is the same way and this is how she got broken in on a drive to TX. I had to stop for a nap after approx 15 hours and she wanted to keep going. I said fine heres the keys. I watched her for about fifteen minutes then woke up on the outskirts of dallas in the early stages of rush hour traffic. Her response was that it was a piece of cake though she wouldnt want to do it loaded. The important thing was she was comfortable with the trailer. I did have to make the entire return trip hauling my recently acuired 95 cummins though. This is truely a thing of baby steps. Another hint is dont make her back it up till she is comfortable going forward. Good luck.
My GF ca drive a stick but not really well. Last time she drove my truck Parts were falling off
By parts I mean my down pipe and flex pipe that went to the stack. They lasted through 2 years of off raoding and sled pulling but 15 minutes with hear and I lost it for good
