All of my other neighbors are great. This one is the only one who isn't friendly. She's never said hello since I moved in even when I wave at her while she picks up her mail. Some people.........

Thanks for the replies!

I think that you will be happier placing her old mail box some place the sun doesn't shine.... say her side of the road for example.

Is she an older lady that is retired and has nothing better to do than @#$&* about everything. Leave the old one on her step, and tell her if she doesn't like it move her mailbox down to the next set so she has to walk further for her mail, and your yard will look nicer with just the one box. And then for fun, some night light of small paper bag of dog crap on fire on her step and ring the doorbell and run, that one is still the best!

Well, the neighbor lady liked it enough to use it today. Maybe things won't head south and require me to utilize some of ya'lls suggestions. or a few of my own that probly can't be mentioned on this site.......

Had close to the same issue you are with one of my neighbors. A neighbor and I put up a stand that held multiple mailboxes (enough for all the people on our street). Until that point, all our mail had to picked up at the post office. Had neighbor that didn't even live on the same street put their mailbox on our stand so close to mine that you couldn't even reach the flag. Idiot decided to use a different box than everyone else. Because it was in an easement, we could not do anything about it. However, the big difference was our mailbox stand did not sit in front of anyone's property.

As far as reprocutions from the Postal Service, there won't be any unless tampering with the mail is involved. Good luck in your fight.
I haven't looked just now but I seem to recall that all residential mail boxes are embossed as being property of the US Postal Service.

in many rural areas, mailboxes are purchased privately by the homeowner and are their property.

The Post master is coming out to check things over tomorrow or Tue. I'm gonna wait to see what he has to say on the subject.

Sadly the neighbor just has a crappy attitude. Apparently she has some kind of disability and as such has that "pity me" attitude ands acts like the world owes her something. She Bullied my wife the night she noticed the new box and now when the wife dosen't answer the door for her, she goes to my other neighbors and starts bad mouthing me.....

Some days I want to move back into the sticks without neighbors.....

My mom and the lady across the street were in a beef over something totally insignificant when I was growing up. Lady across the street backed into our mailbox out of spite on a weekly basis for at least a month. Dad would pull the broken off stub out of the hole and drop the mailbox and post in the hole.
My folks had a nutjob friend who came over and noted that our mailbox was about a foot off the ground (mailman refused to deliver to us at this point). He asked, and my parents told him about the neighbor lady.
When he left later that evening after a few glasses of wine, he backed out of our driveway, over their mailbox, through their fence and pushed about half their patio furniture into their pool.
Neighbor lady swore my mom did it, but the cops found no evidence that either of our cars was involved.
Everybody needs friends.

Many years ago someone keptmowing down my Grandads mailbox on a near weekly basis. My Grandad would put up a new post and a week or so later someone would drive over it. We never did see who was doing it. Long story short I cut off a peice of 18" diameter telephone pole to about 10' long and buried it until only 4' stuck out of the ground. Well besides the paint scrapes and busted turn signal on the pole a couple of weeks later that post is still standing and that was at least 15years ago.

I had an issue with cars and baseball bats and my mailbox a few years ago... after two or three incidents a 6" steel pipe burried 6' in the ground and then framed with some stained oak (cause the steel didn't look great) and topped off with a HEAVY steel mailbox fixed all the issues... the wood sides took a bit of a beating, but I just laughed thinking about how bad they jacked themselves up hitting that pipe!

I don't think ANY of us would like someone messing with our property without asking. Come on. If you came home and your neighbor had removed the fence YOU liked and replaced it with one THEY liked because it was easier for them to do 'whatever' - would you be happy about it? The neighborly and respectful thing to do was to ask first and explain why. No wonder she isn't friendly with you- you moved into the neighborhood and started a war! I'm playing devil's advocate here. But really- think about it. Not saying that she isn't just an unhappy person who would never be friendly. She might just be- which sucks for you that she's your neighbor!

We moved into a new area and had to put a box up miles from where we live. Didn't want to tick off the neighbors since they were the ones who'd be keeping an eye on it. We asked the postman where to put it, we asked the neighbors if they had preferences, and we asked the guy whose property easement it was on what his preferences were. EVERYONE was totally nice. The last guy backed over it with his tractor while doing some work- and he asked US what kind of post we wanted it back up on and whether we wanted him to replace the box. (nah, it works just fine) I think because we started out respectful of each other we've all remained respectful and friendly.

Kind of a different situaton there. I don't share a fence or ANY property line with her. Her place is accross the street. Her mailbox just happens to be in my yard.

Also I did attempt to talk with here several times but she was never there when I stopped by.
