Looking for some computer ideas.

I think I got hijacked.
Not me but my computer, I use IE and want Yahoo for the search engine but now everytime I open IE it will open with Google and it is driving me nuts. I will use the Internet Options and set it back as my default browser and this will work for a few minuets then it goes back to Google.
I have also tried using the Change Default Search Providers options and it still goes back to Google. Also now whenever you try to search for something it will go to mywebsearch.com and even though the Yahoo box is checked Google will open however in the Internet Options it will change to Google.

So basically Google hijacked me and I cannot get rid of it.
I have tried to uninstall IE and reinstall it and it still remembers, I dumped the cache and temp files before I reinstalled it.

I do not think it crashed my computer but I think it was allowed because of my security. After my teenage daughter gets off from it strange things happen.
I have NIS 2007 and Windows Defender.

I am running Windows XP professional and all of the Service Packs, Patches and Hot Fixes are up to date.
Windows Firewall is disabled because I am using the firewall in NIS, I am behind a router.
Where would you look the find the problem? I have scanned all of my E-mail but something is still showing its little head.
I am ready to reinstall the O.S.

Also what are you using to dump your Spam?
I am getting about 200 E-mails a day they are either about Loaning Money, Colleges, Dating Service or ED meds.

I am looking for a good one to BUY I do not want a free one because they have their own pop ups and junk they install.

I used to use Norton Anti Spam and that worked real well but they stopped making it in 2007.

I use Outlook Express for my mail, I tried the one that comes with Verizon but I also have Earthlink and I cannot get them to filter the mail from each other and Verizon wants you to logon to Verizon Central to check the mail. It is too much of a hassle.
This is making my head hurt.
Thanks Jim

A good short term fix would be to run FireFox. You can also get Thunderbird for your email. I use both and rarely have any problem unlike IE....

I do not think that would solve the problem because the problem is with the search engine and not the browser.
I need to find where the actual bug is so I can delete it.

I'm positive getting Firefox would fix the problem :P
I'm sure it would also help w/ the spam-mail.

I'm pretty positive somthing was changed in one of your registry files.
Did you download anything lately (like google earth) or any other programs that support google and click (during installation) "Set google as my homepage" or maybe your daughter did?

I'd download a registry cleaner

If you're looking for a utilities program investigate Fix It Utilities Professional--I think the latest version is 7.

I had problems with my computer after I had a "computer guy" come to eradicate a problem. He solved that problem but created others. I purchased the program under someone's advise and it cleaned my registry files. Found several hundred things that needed attention.

That was nearly a year ago and I have had no problems. Just an idea.
