Linux anti-virus?

Well I know that there are at least a few guys on here running Linx OS...

I have been using Ubuntu 6.10 for a few months now, and am not running any sort of anti-virus/anti-spyware. I have heard/read that it is not really needed with Linux OS. Basicially I am just making sure I am safe without it...

I am highly enjoying the Micro$oft free lifestyle, even if it boring with the system always doing what it is supposed to do, more stable and quicker...

You can get Clamav, and other anti virus stuff online. But with an Ubuntu setup that's kept up to date it isn't necessary. But it's neice to have a mail server in the house that scans all the mails before they reach the Windows(R) machine.

(PS- I'm running Gentoo)

I am pretty sure that the Mandriva install disks have an antivirus program on them.
I never installed it because viruses are not an issue with Linux I am told.Ron G

I have ClamAV on my server, but I've never seen a virus alert. You shouldn't have a problem not running anti-virus software since there aren't many out there. I installed ClamAV just for peace of mind.

I've only heard of one virus attack on linux...3 or 4 years ago. The community responded so quick with patches, it was a non-issue.

In general, if you keep it up to date, you shouldn't have any problems. I've been running a linux server for ~7 years w/ no issues.

I do run a nat-spi firewall...and the logs show all sorts of attempts to break in. None are successful though!

You really don't need it, I don't run it on any of my ... what 5 Linux machines, except I have ClamAV on my server because it works along with ASSP to scan incoming emails.
