Lasik Surgery
Had PRK (simmilar to LASIK but more stable in harsh environments) in '02 and love it. 2 more trips overseas and other various "high risk" activities and no problems. Definately worth the money...got $20,000 and 6 more years in the Army
Did I mention flight school for free too?

My insurance picked up $1k of the $3600 bill. Don't go to the cheap place. Before lasik I couldn't see the E. After lasik I can read the 20/15 line with each eye. Make sure you ask one million and one questions. They all want your money, but there are less than 'qualified' surgeons out there. My surgeon does cataract surgery on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. Tuesday Thursday he does lasik and PRK. It became very clear which doc to go to when I asked about what services each place provides. The one I chose does complete eye care, not just lasik. That alone was worth the price since they understood the complete process and will be around in 5-10 years when the lasik fad dies out. The rest of the unscruplous strip-mall stores wanted to schedule the surgery and payments ASAP. My eye surgeon suggested I wait an extra 3 weeks to schedule since I'd been wearing extended-wear contacts jsut to make sure he was safe.

had mine done a couple years ago b/c i was too blind to get hired on anywhere. i had 20/400 and now im right at 20/20. like everyone else said.....best money i ever spent. the doc i used did about 10 screening tests before hed make a cut. they told me i might have problems with night vision, but other than halos for a few months post surgery, no probs at all. halos are gone, night vision is, if anything, better now. i went back to work the next day. my work is split between staring at a computer screen and doing construction. no probs at all, and id do it again in a heartbeat.

Things do go wrong, this is surgery and what I consider major surgery. Sorry to hear about your wife, that just sucks.
The doctor that did my surgery, 5 minutes prior too, asked me what the most important thing was in my life. My answer, my 4 children and wife of course (she was sitting right there, had to include her). He then asked what if I got off the table an never saw them again, is this worth it? He then said he would be back for my decision and I could either go own or have the surgery done.
It really made me think.
Alot of doctors and office staff I talked to called this a procedure but this is surgery on a very important part of the body. We with success take it very lightly now that it is done and over and with good results. Don't forget, stuff happens and they are not all successes.

I've had my "new" eyes for almost a year now. LASIK was out of the question due to the cataracts.
I had lens replacement done. While my near vision still requires wearing reading glasses, I can spot the hair on a gnats hiney at 200 yards without glasses.
The "procedure" was about 45 minutes for each eye. Other than light duty for a week, it was a piece of cake.
I know that with Blue Cross, if your regular eye doctor does a consultation to an eye surgeon, insurance will pick up at least 80% of the charge. My total charges were $14,000+ and I was only out ~$1000 total.

LASIK was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I am a mother of a 3 year old and a 1 year old and that means a lot of waking up in the middle of the night. This translated to sleeping in my contacts so that I could see what I was doing when I had to check on my kids; after 20 years, it was starting to take a toll on the health of my eyes. Dr. Wiles is so informative and has such a calm demeanor; he put me at ease even though I was nervous about the procedure. He went through all of the steps involved in the treatment so that I knew exactly what to expect. I appreciate everything he has done to make my vision what it is today. I can now see 20/20 with no help."
Finally had lasik done a couple months ago and wish I had done it several years ago. I paid the extra money and went to what I think is one of the best eye doctors in Phoenix. Had the monovision done and once my little pea brain figured it out - WOW this is great. 20/15 in one eye and 20/20 in the other. Wife went and had hers done about a month ago and same story, she loves it.
The only time I have anything less than normal is when the weather gets cold and dry and Im not drinking enough water.
My mother had it done, and she can't see very well now. Distances are
messed up, she even walks crooked now, I'm not kidding, she's a mess. She even took off the mirror on her car pulling into the garage.
They've even tried to correct the mess with glasses, but that's what she had before when she could see right.
I guess everyone is different, and it's like a DC warranty, you better read the fine print .
