Lasik & BCBS
I've seen in several older posts where individuals mentioned that Blue Cross Blue Shield covered part or much of the cost of their lasik. The company that I work for just switched to BCBS and so I asked about whether lasik was covered and here's the response that I got from BCBS - "Lasik surgery is not a covered benefit unless it is deemed as medically necessary by the BCBSOK Medical Review Board."
I'm wondering whether anyone else that had lasik and BCBS had to get medical review board approval and what all was involved.
Thanks in advance,

If they won't cover it and you want to get the lasik just finance it. I had mine done in 2000 and it was 4800 then. The cost has gone way down since then but I do not regret doing it at all. I had been wearing glasses since the 3rd grade and then contacts since the 9th grade. It was great to be able to see when I first woke up in the morning without having to reach for my glasses. It is worth every penney IMO.
Lasik
I went to a world renown lasik doctor here in San Diego. When you receive your info packet they list possible problems. I unfortunately ended up with many of them. My vision is greatly improved, but I'm back in glasses again. My friend is back in them five years later. Most folks do real well. If you have a flexible medical account program with your employer, you can have the cost deducted from your pay, then turn in the receipt and pay no taxes on that amount. It saves you 30%. Good luck.
Lasik is still considered an elective surgery. As long as you can be corrected with lenses, that is the alternative.
Lasik run me about $4000. So far its been a good investment.

If you have BCBS, your health plan may not cover lasik surgery, but you should be able to get a substantial discount if you use an affiliated eye doctor. In the Northeastern U.S., Davis Vision is the vision network utilized by BCBS. I'd call Davis Vision and see who the preferred lasik providers are in your area.

WoW, I had mine done back in '95 ( radial kerotomy-lasik wsnt an option then..... $3000 per eye, it was still considered " experimental surgery" had to sign all kinds of waivers.......
Went in 20/100L and 20/200 right.... came out 20/10L 20/20R.......most recent eye exam was last Friday and i am still at that level.
i was awake during the procedure, they sewed my eyelids back, numbed the eyes and Ican still see the scapel descending onto my eyeball.......
but still the best money i ever spent on myself i think...
its worth it even if your insurance wont cover it

Fronty, what problems do you experience with computer monitors? I'm in front of one quite a bit and curious what to expect. Any other issues that you had that I need to watch out for?
My outcome was phenomenal. I know LASIK may seem like a lot to spend, but the procedure will pay for itself since I don't have to spend money on glasses anymore, and not to mention the time it saves. It's worth it!"
