Ipod vs everyone else.

Ipod is priced about the same for comparable memory.
Ipod will play the same formats.
Ipod will also play m4p (ipod format)
Everyone else isn't M$ or Apple.

If you have the video Ipod you can have all of your entertainment with you if you stop at a hotel you can plug it into the TV and watch all of the movies you brought from home instead of having to pay for them.
I will most likely buy one of those FM transmitters to hook up to it. I'm not a fan of ear phones. I like to be able to hear what's going on around me.

Good point on the hotels, although I really don't stay in hotels all that often. Once or twice a year at most.

I'm sort of trying to steer away from Microsoft. I'm hoping to replace my PC with a Mac around the end of this year, so it only makes sense that I stay consistent and get an iPod instead of whatever Microsoft has on the market. Besides, the 30 GB Microsoft I saw today was the same price as the 30 GB iPod.

Besides, iPod is kind of like Glock...it seems that EVERYONE makes some kind of accessory for it.

Hoss,

I purchased a 30gig Ipod last Christmas and play it thru an Alpine stereo with a direct cord. I think I paid $250 for the Ipod and less than that for the Alpine, cord, tax and free installation.

What a bargain!! I love that thing. I never listen to the radio anymore. I cancelled my XM radio and it still plays...but I never listen to it. Just the IPOD. Currently I have over 3800 songs on it and it's not even half full....and some of the space is going for pictures too.

What you can do is go ahead and download Itunes onto your computer for free and start loading all of your music and bible stuff onto it. You can start out by listening to it while you are here on DTR or playing on your computer. Then you can eventually go buy an IPOD to go with it and make your music portable. At least that is how I started ....and now I will never go back to CDs.

Now whenever I hear a song or something prompts my memory.....I just go to the "itunes store" and buy the song for .99. In your earlier post you mentioned.....Hotel..... and it made me remember to download
"only the lonely" and "suddenly last summer" by THE HOTELS!

Oooops...on edit, I meant "The Motels" . I think I was half asleep when I originally typed this.

I also have the 30gb Ipod and I LOVE it!! I have a about 2700 songs on mine and I have a lot more room for more! I used to be the same way and think that I'll only buy what I need......but then sooner or later you will fill it up and wish you had something bigger. My suggestion is buy the bigger one, it never hurts to have more space than you need.

Plus you can load all kinds of pictures on it, so when you are having a cummy day you can look at the pictures of your family to cheer you up!

You can go to Apple's website and they sell refurbs. I have bought 3 refurbs from them at a considerable savings. Other than the packaging that they are delivered in, I can't tell them from new - not a scratch on them.

That being said, you really need to decide how you want to use the iPod and that might help drive which one to buy (harddrive vs flash). I bought two 20 gb hard drive based ones - one for me and one for the wife. My wife's is still running flawlessly two years later. My 20 gb one died earlier this year with hard drive issues. I think my issues were caused by how I use it - I travel so this thing went with me everywhere so it was subject to shock abuse in my computer bag, I ride a motorcycle and I would put it in my tail trunk which had an adapter to my head unit and since this is a Harley, things in the tail trunk got rattled around a good bit when idling (stop signs etc), and finally I used it in my boat and I have no mercy on waves (which causes a bumpy ride at times). I would imagine any activity (running, 4 wheeling, etc) that subjects the iPod hard drive to vibrations/shock would cause a premature death.

I think I paid $150 for my 20gb model a couple of years ago and sold it on eBay for parts for $50. I have since bought an 8 gb Nano and love it - much more compact than the 20gb model I had - I think I paid $125 for this on the Apple refurb site.

The same kind that buys an iPod apparently, because I've decided that after church tonight I'm going to go back by Best Buy and pick up the 30 GB iPod. Can't wait to play around with it.

FM Transmitter

Hoss
I picked up one of these to use my mp3 player. Works great so far and not expensive! It also has a USB port to charge a device and a USB player port for music on a zip drive (has it's own player)
Take a peek
