Internet scam on my CTD!

I'm sure plenty of you guys have heard about the typical internet scam which involves some guy overseas sending you a huge check (which is no good) and your supposed to keep what he owes and send the rest back. I copied an email i recieved about my '95 i have listed right now.... it's about as sketchy as it gets if you ask me.

Hello,
I have forwarded your vehicle information to my client and after evaluation and due to time constraint on the fact that we are running short of time. I'm delighted to tell you that my client has recommended your vehicle, with full interest and he has instructed me to carry on with his transaction,he hopes the engine is serviced and oil changed too .He cant wait to see the vehicle parked in his garage.
However,My client made out a certified cashiers check of($17,000) before he travelled to germany for death of his daughter, for a previous vehicle and its shipment charges etc,but it was unfortunately sold. The amount on the check he deposited for the vehicle is bigger than what should be paid to you now, so the check is now meant for the total expenses which includes the purchase of your vehicle, the pick up of the vehicle from its present location and the shipping charges/other necessary shipping arrangements. However he has instructed us to carry on with this transaction. So you're required to deduct the cost of your vehicle ($10,500)and send the balance of($6,500) to the Agent ( our shipper ) for him to be able to offset shipping & tax charges, and other cosmetic repair costs. After payment has reached you and balance sent to shipper, the shipper's agent will come for inspection, pick up (of vehicle & signing of title papers), make some cosmetic touches and drive to a prepaid shipper to be shipped to my customer.and also conclude other necessary shipping arrangements.so you dont have to bother yourself about the pick up and shipping arrangements.
Please Confirm this and provide name, address and phone number for check payment to be delivered to you via fedex courier .
Thanks and God bless.
Regards

I got a few of those when I was selling a car on ebay. If you got it while doing business on ebay, make sure you report it. Ebay is pretty good about that stuff.

I think ebay will block that account from sending out other email, but they probably don't have the resources to hunt all these guys down. And technically, he's done no wrong until he delivers a bad check...

go with it, get the check, and foward it to the attorney generals office for your state. you call also contact your bank on who to give the info to. the feds are really trying to stop this. give them the check for some form of traceability.

it just helps them track down who bought or stole the check in the first place. it may be a phony name and address, but some info for them is better than nothing.

Lary, you left out one operative word: legitament. Should be inserted between "does" and "business".

These guys do business that way, and you're correct, it IS a scam.

Thats not a bad idea. I believe i'll go ahead w/ it and get the check from him, that way a i can report him. this kinda thing drives me . i wish these low-lives would get off thier butts and make an honest living. I found the first email he sent me with all the questions, looks like a universal list he can use for any car... but he needs to work on his grammer a little. check it out.

Hello,
1, Is the engine in perfect condition?.
2, How often do you service the car?.
3, How many miles of the car at the moment?.
4, are you the owner before placing it for sale?.
5, If yes, for how long did you use car?.
6, have the car been involve in auto accident?
7, what about mechanical defectives on the car?
8, your intension is of selling the car?
9, Are you with the title papers
10,Finally what is your bottom price
NB.please get back immediately so that my Client will get
me posted on the payment/pickup arrangement as soon as possible

I like to mess with those people.

I told one of them that I wanted $10,000 for $100 worth of parts and the funny thing is, the return email says...We are O.K. with your price........

These are just alot of auto generated stuff.

Just keep messing with him until they give up.....It is a lot of fun and helps relax the nerves on a late Friday afternoon....
