Insurance cost for those under 25?
I was just wondering what some of you guys are paying to insure your 3rd Gens? Espeacially those under 25. I am currently a 20 year old student and will be looking for a new vehicle at the begining of next year. Many people are trying to talk me out of it due to insurance cost, so I was wondering if you guys could tell me me what kinda cost I might be looking at.
I currently have NOTHING on my driver's record, but I am looking at about a 2500/3500 Quad Cab Short bed 4wd SLT. So if anyone has simular stats could you please give me alittle informantion.

This is a hard thing to really get a clear idea of from other people on a discussion forum. The problem is that different cities have different insurance costs. There are also other things that effect the insurance price depending on the carrier. The best thing to do is to call your insurance company and ask them for a quote on a Ram in the trim you want (i.e. 2500 4x4 SLT Diesel).
With that said, I'll tell you what I pay figuring it's on the expensive side since I live in Los Angeles.
I'm 27 and married with 3 cars on my policy.
I pay about $1350 every 6 months for the Ram with full coverage.

robert...i'm pretty sure that the rate is much higer for coon-a$$es too!!
seriously though, i concur with sbutter, there can be huge differences from one agent to another, just call around and get some different quotes.

The biggest issue is what type of vehicle you have, coverages, and where you live. Usually the bigger the vihicle the more damage that you can do to others property. In Texas the minimum coverage 25/50/25 won't cover you very well if you do make a big mistake. I know Texas has one of the highest auto insurance rates in the nation so I think if you have a LA address then I would get insurance in that state.
Under 25 ouch. Bro you're going to pay a while till you hit 25. I was paying $130 for 2001 Ram 1500 Off-Road. Better to call you insurance agent. Shop around. I found that the Farm Beaura's are less expensive then State Farm, All State etc...
Good luck.

I have State Farm. I'm 22 and my 2004 2500 is running me about $1200/6 months. I'm single but have a house with them so I get a little bit of a discount (10%?). When I had my 2002 GMC 2500 that stickered for about $10k more it was about $20 cheaper a month. I guess Dodges are more expensive.
If I was 25 and married it would be half that.
BTW I have 0 pts.

I am on State Farm and have a speeding ticket from 2 years ago. I am on my mothers plan though and I pay her almost $1500 every six months. Thats with a thousand dollar deductible. We always pay out of pocket for our slip ups, so no claims in many years. 22 btw.

If you can get it through a agent in LA, it would probably be a lot cheaper.

mines not a third gen, but its fairly new, im paying around 120 a month, through farmers insurance, i was gunna go through state farm but when i called them to get a price they wanted $$$1700 every six months, i just kinda laughed and asked if i would get a kiss with the screwin. I was 17 when i bought the truck, almost 19 now
OH and a little side note, my insurance just went DOWN $10 a month, no reason i guess they just wanted to keep me around

OUCH! I'm an old fart, have 4 vehicles in the house with full coverage, three are trucks, but some call a Durango or SUV a truck. My Ram is $228 every 6 months. Multi car and good driver discount really helps.
Also, If anyone has family or friends that live in a rural area, I would register it to that address and get lower rates. I did that for many many years until I really did move to a rural area and saved a bundle over those years.

Funny thing, I noticed in Consumer Reports that the cheapest truck to insure was the Cheby Avalanche? They rated the Dodge above average (meaning more), Ferds were avarage also. Can't figure why they would single out the Ram as more to insure? Anyway, when I replaced my 1500 with the 2500, mine went up $23 for 6 months to $416. But, I live in TX and behind Massachusetts, we are a very high insurance premium state. They always bring up about not paying state income tax, but dang, my residential tax is $5873/yr, homeowner insurance $1120/yr and auto insurance $1473 for both vehicles (wife has a 04 GLX PASSAT). Yeah, thank goodness we don't have state income tax. Sorry for the whining!

Dang, I thought California was bad, residential tax, is that your property tax in Texas? If that were, in my neck of the woods, your property tax would equal about the value of a $620,000 .00 house here
