Insurance!

1995 Z71 (liability only), 1995 Ford Windstar and 1999 Dodge Ram. Besides the auto's, I have my house, ATV, horse trailer and travel trailer with State Farm. Have been with them and the same agent, since 1965. I haven't had a ticket since 1966 and have only had a couple of minor "uninsured motorist" claims in about the last forty years. The wife has had three moving violations and a stolen van in the past 30 years. I got a notice that they were going up $64/yr, but when I got my bill today, they went up $15/mth! I'll wait until I calm down before I call them.

I've had it with them. Has anyone else shopped insurance rates lately? Who had the best rates?

I shopped around a few months ago and actually switched to State Farm for better rates. Just try a different agent. You would be supprised at the difference in price even though it is through the same parent company!! I got quotes from 2 different agents of State farm and and 2 totally different prices.

USAA seems to be pretty popular. Is it just their rates, or is their service good too?

Or one of your parents...getting fairly lax threw the years....been with them for 25 years...other companies have told me they can't touch USAA's rates.

I have USAA too. So far so good. Been with them since before I moved to Texas 18 years ago. I haven't made but one claim that I can recall....hail damage to a vehicle back in the 90s........but they paid quick, no hassle. I think their rates are competitive.

Not sure on the military requirement....I got on because of my Dad being in the service. Once you are in.......you are in.

I have auto, RV, home, life insurances, credit card, and home equity loan thru them.

Charlie...hope that helps. Give me a call if you need any further info from me on it.

Good agents make all the difference. My agent called me first of this year, suggested we go over all my policies together. I have 2 trucks, Jeep TJ, and a Miata plus homeowners. Long story short, my overall insurance costs went down a good 20%. What made me eligible for the decreases were three things - crossed the age Rubicon for the next discount group, owning a home that was mortgage free, and annual mileage/use of vehicles.

My 06 Dodge diesel is $642 per year, mileage is under the national average of 18K, under 15K actually.

NO tickets, no accidents, etc for 20 years also made a BIG difference. Funny part is, two weeks ago I had to make a comp claim for a windshield, first comp claim ever. I knew getting all those discounts and changes would jinx my record!!!

For me personally, service from my agent is just as important, if not more so, than the rate. What good is a low rate if when you make a claim, it's like pulling eye teeth to get the insurance company to live up to their end of the bargain?

For what it's worth, I've had Farmer's Insurance for the last 25 years.

Good luck!

X2, I used State Farm for over 20 years. Had them for home, auto, farm, etc.. 1 claim about 2 years after I went with them. I knew more about insurance than my agent I think. About 8 years ago I switched to Farm Bureau/Country Companies. I saved money from day 1. I have had 4 auto claims in that time. 1 was my daughters fault, the other 3 where all deer strikes. The second deer strike totaled our Jeep. Their claims adjuster's are great. Treated me fair with no haggling and my rates never really went up much. I do have a great agent as well.
