I posted this in another thread ,but it works well here to.

I just got home from the hurricane ride out team at work. I live in Matagorda county where Ike was supposed to go. Luckily for me it went further east. We had a few controllers with us that live in Brazoria county that had damages to their houses. I am relieved that every thing at my job held together and my house was spared but some of my friends were not so lucky.
We had gusts up to 60 mph or so and very little rain.

I'll post the same offer here....roughly 1.3m people w/out power in the h-town area. I noticed at Lowe's yesterday here in SA they had several generators avail for sale. If anyone needs one I'd be willing to help coordinate purchase and/or delivery half way to h-town. I don't think I'd be able to make it all the way there and back due to fuel constraints and work scheduling.

FYI . As just noted by khou-tv the Centerpoint spokesperson stated it could take up to 2-4weeks to restore power and infrastructure to it's residence as they own all the poles and lines. Out of their service area of 2.6m almost 2m are w/out power. Crews will begin working tomorrow.

NW Houston, partly cloudy and 76 *F.

Thanks all for the thoughts and prayers. We got thru IKE with only a few shingles blowed off, one fence panel and some tree limbs. Got power back on late last night, and water back on just before noon. We were lucky.

Talked to PISTOL W this morning. He and his son are fine. We were in NW Houston, and did not get tha damage that some areas got. Some of our nieghbors lost a lot of shingles, had rain come in and take down 2nd and 1st floor celings.

cm979 you got hit hard with the shouth house. Good to know you are OK. Those inverters sound like a good idea.

Lunch laddy is off Mon - Wed as the Cy-Fair schools are closed. Wife will be going in tomorrow. Her office is close by, and still standing.

Had a lot of rain last night and added to the road closures with flooding.
There are flood warnings, watches and all that.

The storm has past. Still a lot of cleanup and power and water service to be restored. I have not heard the latest fatality count. It has been very low so far for a major hurricane.

Galveston got hit hard. It was under a mandatory evacuation. Those that stayed were on their own after 9:00pm on hurricane day. No rescue attempts untill the storm passed. The requested that those that stayed write their name and SS number on their forearms to make identification easer.
Also Texas has the "castle docturn" mean a property owner can defend their property and business. Severl stayed, armed, and defended themselves from looters.

Thoughts and prayers going out.

Most of SE texas has curfews. Houston 9:00pm to 6:00am thru Sat.
Bush and Hobby airports still closed. Expect to start limited operations tomorrow. Airport workers, and airline passengers exempt from curfew.
Most schools districts are going to be closed for a few days.
FEMA is supposed to be setting up PODs, points of distribution of food, MREs, water and ice. It has been over 24 hours and they still are not in place, and FEMA will not give a ETA. Houston has given FEMA the locations.
Fuel is in short supply. Many stations have now power.
About 80% of the ares is still with out power.
Several roads and highways are closed, flooded or trees and powerlines down.
Many areas water supply systems are not working. Some areas advised to boil water.
Neighborhoods are cleaning up the trash left. Stores that can open are opening.
It could have been a lot worse.
Life is getting back to normal.

Its nice and cool this morning around 67*F . Still no power but do have a 6500watt generator so at least we can run the refrigerators, tv and a couple of fans. The gas stations i saw open have had lines of and lines of cars trying to fill up.

Where I am from not too much damage, but my Grandama had a tree fall through her house and it pretty much destroyed it. When we got there her house had water everywhere and the ceiling was buckling from all the water in the attic and in the walls. But she stayed at our house so at least she was not home when it happened.

You know stuff like this makes us realize how lucky we are to live in a Country like we do. We may lose power temporarily but there are so many other countries where people don't have power at all. We a have rescue teams and FEMA to come and help the people in need. The even risk their lives to help the idiot people who refused the mandatory evacuations and are now crying for their help because they realized they should have left when told! Thanks for these people and thoughts and prayers for the people effected by the hurricane

I'm back at work here to at least get internet.

I was lucky. Only lost one tree and no damage to the house. My friends and neighbors did take trees through their houses and lots of shingles blown off. Spent the last two days cutting trees until the chainsaw quit. I'm whooped. We have no electricity, phones or cable. I'm on generator power and getting low on fuel now, but a friend is bringing 20 gallons today. A few stations are open but the lines are long. They are telling us that it could be up to 2 weeks before power is restored due to the all the power poles that are down.

Probably the best summary of pics I've seen.
Tons of utility and Search & Rescue help still coming from across the country. I noticed LAFD Search & Rescue team continuing the trek to h-town after stoping for fuel and taking a photo in front of the Alamo. Hats off to all of those helping out.
