Household security

Have just read something that to me touches on a lot of topics recently brought up on DTR, 911 included. Here it is:

After the United States was attacked by terrorists on Sept 11, 2001, Presidnet Bush called on Congress to create a Department of Homeland security. The job of this agency is to do everything possible to keep citizens safe.
Our individual households also need a plan for "homeland security" if we are to keep others from endangering our children. But in a world of easy access to harmful outside forces, how do we do that? Here are some suggestions for household security:
1) Take charge of the media. Instead of allowing makers of TV programs, movies and CD's to dictate what you watch and hear, use biblical guidlines to evaluate the language and morality of what your children see and what they listen to.
2) Check out their friends. The standards of your children's friends may not match yours. Make your home a haven where their friends are welcome. It'll help you get to know them.
3) Build shields. By teaching y our children biblical principal's and encouraging their faith, you will help them to be discerning and to build inner shields that will protect them from the dangers they face.
How good is your houehold security?

THE BEST SAFEGUARD FOR THE YOUGER GENERATION IS A GOOD EXAMPLE BY THE OLDER GENERATION.

How good is YOUR example?

Good post though. Something I never had to think much about before....but now that I've got a 4 month old little boy I've got to be thinking about this stuff. :)

I totaly agree,,,my boy goes to a Christian Academy and all of his friends are students there. For the most part the tv's stay on the History Channel and radios are tuned to the local AM station. My filth filter is in place, it's a wonder the wife let's me in the house. [eyecrazy] [laugh]

I thought you were going to talk about dead bolt locks, alarm systems, and sawed-off shotguns. [laugh]

I have to applaud anyone who makes the sacrifices to send their kids to any school other than public schools. It can't be easy (or cheap) to pay twice for their education, but it seems that far too many public schools nowadays have given up education for indoctrination. :( Teaching kids to be good little Socialists is not as useful as teaching them to read and to think.
