Hookin' a Powerjoke
Fella's, just keep in mind that those tow straps are not entirely bullet-proof either. A buddy of mine was trying to ****** out a palm tree stump from his front yard and when that strap finally reached it's limit and parted, it put one heck of a dent in his tailgate (lucky it wasn't his head).

Well, I posted this before, but Ive done a tow once, a guy in a early 90s F250 with a 302 5spd thought he would pull me, well, I laughed at him, and he tried to hold the brakes method, and since he was pissing me off sayin my Dodge was a POS, I just put her in 1st and 4LO, snugged up the TOW STRAP and pulled him, the Cummins only got to 1500 rpm or so, then he decided he would try and pull back, so he spun all four of his tires and his front tires were hopping so bad the one hopped up, hit his fender, pushed it against his drivers door and it wouldnt open after that
. I told him thats what you get when you mess with a Cummins

Oh ya, I think I got a challenge from a 2001 Furd Powerstroke ext. cab short box 4x4. Think I can beat him? How much HP and Torque Would I need to pull him do you guys think? I got the advantage of a higher tail end, and I think my truck is a bit heavier (weighed in at 6600lbs), What do you guys think?

Just a few questions that have not been axed yet.
What trans do you have ? Are you going to pull in 4 low? Start in drive or 1st ?
If you have a manny what gear to start in ? Pavement or dirt ? Also would the auto be better or worse to use than a standard? Looking forward to see what you guys would suggest.
PS. BE SAFE ! As suggested previously. Use a tow strap without hooks and put a blanket or something like that over it to prevent it from hitting something or someone and STAND BACK.

What kind of Torque & HP #s do them Powerjokes have stock, is there any Dyno Graphs I can compare too?
I have an Automatic Trans, I pulled the last guy in 4LO and put it in first, I did the tow in dirt because I didnt want to totally screw up the guys lil Furd
. And I beleive from what I have heard the Automatic is better for tows than a Standard, something do to with how many gears are in contact at once or something giving it more strength, I dont know. It says somethign about it in the TECH section of this site I beleive.
As for power mods all that I have right now is the BHAF, then coming soon it will be a 5" straight pipe, then some gauges, and grinding the fuel plate. What HP and Torque should this put me at? Also I will need to hook up a Manual TC Lockup Switch, and for power I wont go no further until I beef up that auto with a TC, VB and Shift Kit probably all from SMR.
Any suggestions from you guys?
PS. As for traction I just have the BFG A/Ts but the Furd Powerjoke guy just has stockers, but I think them Furds come with manual locking hubs in the front I beleive. So looks like I will need some lockers.

From what I could tell from thedieselstop.com, the 2001 powerstroke made 235 HP and 500 lb-ft TQ.
From dodgeram.org, the 1994 Cummins Ram made 175 HP and 420 lb-ft TQ
http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Facts/94specs.html
theres a powerchart for the dodge, couldnt find any for the fords (dont frequent ford sites too much
)
Not sure about what transmission is better seeing as youd probably want to keep it in the lowest gear possible anyways.
As to the powermods, the BHAF is a great start. The 5" straightpipe is probably a little much unless your planning some major mods, Ive read some guys have actually lost a little power with a pipe that big.
As far as grinding the fuel plate, I unfortunately dont have a 12 valve so Im not sure what that will give you but from what I have read about them, you can get insane amounts of power for relatively cheap from places like Piers, TST etc.....
Transmission mods are definately gonna be necessary on a 10 yr old auto. Proly want to skip the lockup switch and just go for the new converter and VB or even a rebuild.
It might seem like alot but you could have an amazingly powerful (and easy to work on) truck for alot cheaper than a powerstroke, or even a newer cummins.
good luck pulling him, do some mods and you wont even be able to see the otehr truck through all that smoke

Holy, that powerjoke aint making all that much power, I thought they made more, something around 300hp and 550ft/lb. guess not. My truck makes 175HP and 420LB/FT? I thought the 94-95 autos made 160/400? But anyways, I would like to find a Dyno and record my results with different mods, First with a BHAF, check to see the HP and Torque increase, then add an exhaust and see what it does, then plate, and such, see what each does for EGTs and all that, I would be there a while I imagine, or have to go back a few times. It would be priceless information for all the 12 Valve bombers out there though IMO.
As for the 5" Straight Pipe, the reason I am going straight pipe is I heard that going from a 4" DP to a 5" Pipe really gives it a nice low down rumble and eliminates every bit of raspyness associated with Straight Pipes, I know that 4" will be more than enough for my truck, but I dont want a bit of raspyness at all. Anyways, thats all I got to say for now
. Ill keep you guys updated and any info into power and pulling would be really appreciated because its always helpful.
