I rode one, wife learned to ride on it, both sons got their license, and youngest now owns it. Not a fantastic bike, but a good, all around, stone axe simple machine. One thing to watch on them is the vacuum powered fuel tank shut-off. It doesn't have a fuel petcock, it's automatic when the engine starts to crank. The diaphragm and hoses can get old, and leave you walking

My friend's 96 cbr600 had the vacuum tank shut off and it wouldnt open. His mouth dropped when I fixed his bike with 2 pebbles off the ground. Used them as shims to hold the valve open. Whats wrong with a simple on/off valve? They are just so simple and they always WORK!

honda has been doing this for years on their street bikes. i agree, simple petcock valve works everytime.

Never owed a Silverwing, but my last Honda was a 750CBR. That thing almost killed me once when it developed a sudden steering wobble at over 100 mph. Talk about getting my attention fast!
All in all, a very nice bike.

I thought i'd ask around here to see what info might be laying around, the valve just might be why it won't run .....the former owner bought it new rode for 10 - 12 years stored for another 10 or so at one time he tried to start it and it would'nt start or run, then gave it to me this past fall with my truck down with a blown tranny i thought i'd see about digging the bike out an riding that untill i fix my truck

I had a 82 Honda Nighthawk 450. Sold it back to my buddy. I 'm thinking about buying it back this Spring to just commute to and from work with. Was a little sketchy on the highway being such a small bike but it was fun to cruise around on.

Try Erks shim fix, or go to the dealer. They still have a ton of parts in the system for these bikes. Another easy test is to pull the tube off the inlet to the splitter to the carbs, and crank it over. No gas=bad valve.
