Hit a deer tonight
Well I was driving down a little county road on the way home from work at about 11:30 tonight and saw a little movement off to my right, glanced over in time to see an 8 point buck come flying over the fence, slammed on the brakes and POW, I blasted him, he went skidding about 20 yards down the road, kicking and thrashing on the ground. Caught my breath and apparently so did he because he jumped up and went sailing across the railroad tracks into the pasture next to me. It tore my jeep up a little, gonna go look at it closer in the morning, but so far I've got a cratered rf fender, rf fender flare in the front seat, busted grille and grille surround, front bumper bent pretty badly, and lots of hair all over the place. I was able to pull the bumper end cap out far enough to make it the 5 miles or so to the house. Stupid deer, what a way to end the day. Good news is I've got an interview for a new job on thursday that's about 30 miles closer to home. Just had to blow off some steam.

I wish I was as fine, as those who work the pipeline!
Don't wash that hair off if you are intending to make an insurance claim. That is the first thing the adjuster will look for.
You are NOT supposed to hit the bucks.
Kinda funny how you can sneak around the woods in the early mornig and late evening for days on end and not see a single one, but drive like heck down the highway, lights on Hi beam, tires roaring, radio blaring, horn blasting and SMACK they come out of nowhere!!!
Don't feel bad, I've hit two. I Put a new cow pusher on my truck and haven't seen one since!!!

Man that sucks. May want to have a police report made out just in case you want to file on the insurance.
Reminds me of the Ron White joke.

I finally had to threaten to go buy a spanking new truck, chicken wire the windshield and go hunting deer nightly with their fully insured $30,000 truck that I guaranteed would have PLENTY of deer hair and evidence stuck to it so i wouldn't have to pay for it...

A guy I work with hit a deer just right with his crown vic. Busted the headlight, cracked the grill, and bent the corner of the hood and fender where they meet just above the head light.
$6200 worth of damage because it set off the airbags and locked the seat belts up.
A college buddy hit one in his ford ranger. cost him $100 to replace the grill and two years to get the hair and musk off his heater core.

I was driving down 1885 yesterday and a cat ran out in the middle of the road and decided to stop and watch my truck going towards him at 70mph...thump! That was coming out of peadonville on FM 1885 then I was on FM 1884 and I was going 60mph and a golden retriver ran out but I never saw him till I heard a smack and I saw him spining in my rear view. My tire didn't go over him he just got tire slapped. I stopped and went to check him out and he was bleeding out the mouth, took him to the vet and they called the pound. He's okay tho. I love dogs but I'm not a cat guy.

Sucks you hit the dear but congrats on the interview!
My brother got hit by a deer a few years ago. He was on a county road at night going home. About a mile from home he had a deer run into his driver side door on his Dakota. The antlers went through the glass and got him in the head and neck. He dragged the deer for about 100yrd and it finally came off the truck and got ran over by his rear tires. My brother didn't get hurt too bad, few scrapes and some bruises to his neck shoulder and the back of his head. He was more shook up than hurt after the incident.

No insurance claim for this one (liability coverage only.) But I knocked the fender dent out as good as I could, built the bumper I've been talking about building for 6 months , and got i back on the road. Note to self: don't procrastinate, If I'd had that bumper to begin with everything would've been good. i'm gonna try to finish the brush guard for it this weekend and paint the bumper/brush guard, but for now it works. Bumper is nothing special, but it will look good when done.
