Hey Alaskans!
**grin** His avatar gives the clue on what he does.
Never had the pleasure of being stationed in Alaska. Cousin was at King Salmon many moons ago and to hear him talk, it was the end of the world up there.

Hey CTDinMT;
Welcome on your orders to the Last Frontier. It is a wonderful place to hunt and fish. I live on Kodiak, AK so don't know much about Elmendorf or Anchorage for that matter. I will caution you on one thing though--unless you plan to stay in Alaska the rest of your life do not put in for the PFD. The State is very gung ho on catching and fining those military members (or civilian) who come up here for a tour then leave never to return. The one highly visible case I remember was a family of six. Got PFD for 3 years for all six then left the state. He had to pay back all 6 PFD for all 3 years plus interest. Cost him well over $50,000 when all was said and done. If you plan on making Alaska your home then go for it. I've been here for over 10+years and will never leave. I don't know if there is a DTR group active in Alaska but I know there is a TDR (Turbo Diesel Register) group in Anchorage.
Again welcome and have a blast during your tour here in Alaska.

I am a Combat Arms Instructor in the Air Force, so I fix guns and teach people to shoot. I will try to get out of here by august 20th so hopefully I'll be in Anchorage by the 25th. I'm not going to push to hard, so I can see the sights along the way.
If there isn't an AK DTR chapter already, we'll have to start one. When I get there I'll have to get together with ya'll for a couple barley pops. Thanks for all your input, it's much appreciated. -Steve
AK Ram- I am a Staff Sergeant, hopefully make Tech this month.

Aaaahhhh yes...the CATM Instructors...
It takes a lot of patience and a clear head to teach people who have only shot a gun for 2 hrs in basic training! People like that scare me...especially when they're trying to handle a gun around other people and they start pointing it at them and fiddling w/ it trying to figure it out!
They just replaced the backstop on the indoor range (the only range they use) 3 yrs ago. I remember when they heard the backstop will stop a round from a .50 cal BMG...so they had the EOD guys come over w/ their BMG to try it...the blast was so powerful that it blew the ceiling tiles out of the ceiling grid! But it stopped the bullet!
