HELP! Insurance Price Comparison
Okay, here's the deal. I'm 20 years old and want a CTD REALLY bad. There's one problem, my parents. At the moment I drive a 96 Honda Accord (yeah I know) and my insurance runs me 1,200 every 6 months. This is with me listed as the primary driver on my mom's 93 Ford Taurus. They really don't want me getting a truck because they feel it will interfere with my education (I'm in colege). I live in New Orleans Louisiana and we have some of the highest insurance rates in the US, but also some of the cheapest diesel prices. I'm looking for all the pros that I can lay out for my parents to see as to why this would be doable. One thing they think would be a problem is my insurance. I am on their policy due to the fact that it cuts my price by about 75%. Yeah, you guessed it, if I were on my own, my insurance would cost me 4,700 every 6 months. Do you guys have any experience with the price comparison between say what I drive and a 2000 2500 CTD? We also have full coverage on both vehicles, and I'd probably carry it on the CTD also, but we are fixing to drop it on my parent's Taurus (should have done that a long time ago). I've already bragged about the excelent fuel milage the CTD provides, and that is one of the other things they worry about due to the fact that I drive a good distance to get to school every day.

I have been reading up on this site for quite some time, and I have learned a lot. I'm really convinced that a CTD would treat me well. I also know that you guys will have me opening up my wallet once I would get the truck. I also really like the Power Strokes, but I've read about their problems and poor fuel milage.

Thanks for your input,
Joshua
Re:HELP! Insurance Price Comparison
volkswagon golf/jetta tdi gets about twice the fuel economy of the dodge and is also diesel. 45-50 mpg would not be unusual. So unless you can work in what the truck can haul, you might find something a little smaller in the driveway...(unless you are hauling something give some consideration to the tdi, there is no shame in the car... It is still a diesel. ;D However, if you just "want" the truck...)
Re:HELP! Insurance Price Comparison
$1200.00 every six months? OOUUUCCCHHHHHH! For a honda?
..... I pay $650.00 every six months for my 02' CTD, I am a 30yr old male, and that is FULL COVERAGE! Best bet is to shop around, have a kid, get married and put everything you own with that insurance company. ;D
